Chapter 1: Introduction
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all
without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5 (NIV)
It is a fact that most OFW, are broke. In my 15 years of working in Saudi
Arabia, I have seen lots of Filipinos going home broke. As in no money
in their wallet, I remember the first time I went home, I only brought
home $500 in my pocket after working 1 whole year in Saudi Arabia. I
want to share why did brought only $500 at that time? Well, It is
because of the following reasons:
1.)My Salary is Low
2.)I brought too much “Pasalubong”
3.)I spend a lot in communication (On that time, there is no mobile
phone and internet connection is limited)
4.)I don’t know how to manage my finances
5.)I am engaged in gambling (Lotto, Lottery Ending and the like)
6.)I don’t have additional income except from my salary
Above mentioned reasons were just some of the common reasons why
OFW became broke even salary is high in the Middle East.
First timers, becomes too excited that they thought Overseas work is
like hitting a pot of gold. We didn’t realize that in overseas country we
have to spend the same currency that we are receiving from our
employer. We don’t understand that cost of living in the Philippines is a
way different from the cost of living in any country where we go.
Some of the problems that I saw from my experiences in Saudi Arabia
and through stories from my friends, and colleagues in the office are as
follows:
1.)Some OFW tries to get another family, to ease their boredom

2.)Some OFW are getting hooked with social media and eventually
sending phone loads and other valuable items to their chat mate
3.)Some OFW became a social media cautious wherein they show
expensive restaurant just to show that they can afford it. Even
though they knew that it is hurting their monthly budget.
4.)Some OFW bought gadgets because of envy to their officemates,
without knowing the features of the gadget that they purchased.
With those problems mentioned above, I conceptualize this E-book to
teach people like you about the importance of Investing, as well as to
remind you the main objective why do you have to leave your family
back in the Philippines to work overseas.
