education on how to develop and/or improve
the promotion of local organizations
dedicated to cultural heritage using available
low-cost (often FREE) tools to draw visitors to
our area and sites from our regions and from
around our country and around the world.
5. Deans Friends
Values and Culture
Our Values center on working hard to understand
where your group wants to go (Vision) and what
your (Mission) is so that we can share with you the
tools that we have used to help other groups we have
worked with to achieve their objectives on low
budgets. Our culture will focus on partnerships
and teaming. We need YOU as our main partner.
6. Deans Friends
Objectives and Goals
Our Objectives and Goals as an organization
should be established in our minds as mileposts
of achievements along the trail toward
accomplishing our Mission and realizing our
Vision. The measures of accomplishment for
goals should be easy to define, otherwise you
end up in Indian Territory…and not at the Fort.
7. Develop Your Plan
At this point it should be clear that the steps we have
taken so far seem to make sense, but maybe a little
academic. Well, if great grandpa and great grandma
figured they needed a plan, they must have learned that
in school…or maybe it was common sense. Since many
of us didn’t learn much about planning in school..
welcome to Marketing Planning 101..based on Common
Sense 101, or as you will learn it in internet marketing,
Trial and Error 101.
8. Marketing Niche and Strategies
You probably have a good idea of who your target
markets are; Inet Folks call it Niches to impress you
Newbees. The keys are to focus and take it a step at a
time. Our friend above has come to town it appears
to deliver the mail. Or, is he planning to rob the town
and he is telling them to fill his bags with money? In
developing a plan to improve marketing of a non-
profit, sometimes your strategies are just as confused,
9. Resources and Tools
When you have defined your Vision, Mission, Values,
Goals and Objectives, then you must determine what
Resources and Tools you have and need to focus on the
accomplishment of your goals. As your great-great
grandfathers and mothers did, you have to use what you
have, and plan to get what else you will need. Yes, they
had to plan….so do you! Planning is your best tool!
10. Year 1 – Plans and Goals
With all of your foundational planning behind you, now, it is time to
charge Ahead into the first year of your new planning horizon. You will
be all excited Now that you think you know where you are going.
But….take a serious look at Your lofty goals (long term) and be
realistic about how much you can really accomplish the first year. Get
your board or group of supporters together and discuss options for
goals for the first year. Consider the costs (all resources) of
meeting alternative goals, the risks and the realistic feasibility of
getting there. Conduct a SWOT Analysis and look at the Hinge Factors
involved. The more you plan, the higher the mountain seems to get!
11. SWOT and Hinge Factor Analysis
Hey, what’s up? Why are we back in the school room? I thought we had
done our Planning! Well, it seems that most folks start out DREAMING and
not planning! Trust me! Your first cut at plans….when you pull them back
out at this stage in your marketing process….look like Dreams. That’s
OK…because without the dreams, you would not be this far. However, it is
time for a reality check even beyond that of the Business Plan and Feasibility
Study. Remember; plan your work, work your plan, and Then revise your
plan based on new developments. That is what good planning does For
You…or To You! We don’t plan to fail…we fail to plan. Yes I know!!!!!!!!!
You know what a SWOT Analysis is. Look closely at Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities And Threats associated with your organization and your plan
and Hinge Factors are events or happenings that can cause plan failure.
.
12. What Next?
By now you are either trying to figure just where this all
is going, or you have given up and moved on to another
website to find what you are looking for.
Our approach is to suggest you move with care and focus
from one step to the next in your efforts to improve
and/or develop new marketing materials and tools.
We suggest that you digest the ideas presented in our
Management 101 tutorial you have just reviewed. I know
there is not much here, however, if you reflect on this
and consider first, does this make sense, then, what will
it take to act on these steps, and then take that action.
We struggled with trying to implement these steps
because we did not follow them in the listed
sequence…..and if you don’t….you too will waste time.
13. Ready to Act?
If you are thinking like we were at about this stage, you are now about ready
to start surfing around on the internet looking for instant tools to handle each
of the components of the process that you think you need to address.
First, why don’t we just find a website that does this all? We tried that, and
in our case, that just did not work. After considering websites, we thought
about domain names and mailing lists and landing pages and PayPal and
Facebook and pictures and videos and keywords and all of that stuff that
we knew were important, but had no idea how to pull them all together.
Maybe, at this time, we can step in (like great grandma did) and show you how
to fold it all together, stick it in the oven, bake it the right amount of time, and
then take it out and enjoy the results. If this makes sense, contact us using the
contact form provided or email us at deanritch2@gmail.com.
