I thought Mars is a good planet to choose because it is the next planet from the Sun after Earth. Also because Mars was named after the Roman god of war. Planet
The distance from the Sun is 142 million miles away from the Sun. The temperature on the surface of Mars is -184 degrees F to +80 degrees F. Temperature and Distance
Scientists have discovered that there wasa little water on Mars, but it is frozen ice. Is there water on Mars?
The surface of Mars is lots of valleys, ice, frozen carbon dioxide, and dust. Scientists think that long ago there was water in those valleys. Surface
Mars has a very thin atmosphere. It is made out of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide. Its atmosphere allows sunlight to easily reach Mars’ surface during the day. Scientists want to try to build the atmosphere, but it may take years. Atmosphere
Here are not that many gases on Mars. Mostly the only gas is frozen carbon dioxide. Gases
Olympus Mons is the highest mountain in the solar system and it’s on Mars.! It is about 15 miles high. Mt. Everest is 5.5 miles high. That’s puny compared to Olympus Mons. Astronauts will prepare very well for a trip to Mars. Flying to Mars takes awhile. It takes 9 months to get there.(If there are no black holes.) BLAST OFF! There have been many missions to Mars. The first successful one was in 1965. It was called Mariner 4. Mars has 2 moons Phobos and Deimos. Fun Facts
Mars may sustain life. Scientists have been thinking how they could send plants to Mars to suck in the carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen. We can’t live with just a small atmosphere and frozen water. Scientists will try to make the atmosphere bigger, and they will have to wait for the ice to melt. This may take years. Life
