Sympathy
To Paul (Marisa) Windham at the passing
of his Uncle, James Windham.
The Power of the Wind.
We saw firsthand this past week the power of the wind. The
nature of a tornado that touches down on one street but skips
over another is defined by Jesus’s words:
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but
you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it
is with everyone who is born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).
The wind has a mind of its own, but the main focus of this
passage is the comparison to the Spirit. The word for wind
and the word for Spirit are one and the same.
The Spirit blows where He wishes. He wishes for us to be
born of the Spirit.
In this context, Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus who has ap-
proached Him in secret.
“This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we
know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can
do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus an-
swered him, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born
again he cannot see the kingdom of God.’ Nicodemus said to
him, ‘How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a
second time into his mother’s womb and be born?’ 5
Jesus
answered, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of
water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
6
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is
born of the Spirit is spirit’” (John 3:2-6).
We can only enter the Kingdom according to how the Spirit
wishes. This means it is not up to us to determine the way we
enter any more than it is up to us to determine where the wind
blows.
The wind is powerful, able to destroy strongholds using the
air. The Spirit is powerful, able to destroy the stronghold of
sin held by the Prince of the Power of the air.
The wind blows where it wishes, and He wishes to take away
your sins.
Have you accessed the power of the wind?
