2. The male representations portrayed in the main image of
‘Jimmy Tyler’ match the codes of this genre music
magazine; it focuses more on his personality/music than
physique. His costume and pose are simple and
masculine, while his prop is very feminine and is a direct
link to the theme of the magazine; Valentines. This is
further represented by the symbolic sign of the heart
shaped flash next to him, signifying love and romance.
However, this portrayal isn’t the traditional romantic
James Bond style representation, it signifies a relaxed and
confident man who doesn’t feel like he needs to express
himself with a fancy suit or a muscular physique. This is
effective as it gives more simple, subtle representations
which make the magazine look more sophisticated. This is
good as the overall look that I aimed to achieve with the
magazine was sophisticated.

3. The women here are represented as strong,
intelligent individuals who care more about their
music than their sexuality. Both women are wearing
simple costumes with more natural, minimal
makeup, and their hair is modest, but they still look
attractive. This represents the magazine as serious
about music and therefore efficient in providing the
latest information about music.
The men are also represented as strong and
intelligent individuals who want to show off their
music rather than their physiques. In the close up
black and white image Alex Major is represented as
quite aggressive by his dominating pose, but the
expression on his face is slightly comical and
therefore softens the representation.

5. The language of the DPS has a consultative register as the target
audience will want the magazine to provide intelligent reading,
’ ‘as well as a form of escapism from their jobs and
lifestyles, while the tenor is a good balance of formality and
colloquialism, ‘ ‘ This
language might offend the more classy part of the target audience
because of the swearing, but I still decided to use it as it makes the
tenor of the article more informal which is effective because the
readers feel like they are part of the interview and they can relate
to it more.
The combination of the tenor and register represent the social
group as people with higher intelligence ‘ ‘ who want
to relax as well as learn.
The language also includes more specialised vocabulary when
talking about the actual music side of the interview. This further
represents the higher class target audience.
