2. Earlier there was speculation on Allagadda assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh following
the sad demise of YSRCP leader Sobha Nagireddy in a tragic road accident. However
election Commission announced that there will not be any postponement of Allagadda
elections.
Election Commission can postpone elections in a constituency following death of a party
candidate only if the party has EC recognition. As such YSRCP is only a registered party
and not a recognised party. To get EC recognition all the candidates set up by the party
together should get a minimum of eight per cent of the valid votes polled in the entire State
or secure a minimum of six per cent of the total votes polled and one Assembly seat for
every 25 seats in that State.
As per the Rule 13 (Conduct of Election): If a candidate set up by a recognized political
party dies, then the Returning Officer shall announce the adjournment of the poll to a date to
be notified later.
