DevOpsDays Baltimore - 2017 Like roller derby, DevOps involves a lot of people with different skill sets working together. But once you’ve decided to actively cultivate more integrated relationships among development and operations teams, how do you make sure you’re going to score the DevOps organizational grand slams? This talk uses an agile/sports analogy, but one you probably haven’t heard before. Women’s flat-track roller derby is played world-wide after seeing a revival in the early 2000s. It’s a full-contact, team sport with a complex set of technical rules where it’s possible to excel with the right mindset and attitude–but where you’re just as likely to faceplant and lose big if you’re not working as a team. Putting on roller skates doesn’t mean you’re doing roller derby…and changing your operations team name to DevOps doesn’t mean you’re doing DevOps! Audience members will leave with a fresh way of looking at DevOps as a way not only to speed up release cycles and enable continuous delivery, but also as an approach to encourage a culture of shared learning, teamwork, and collaboration.
