Pam Ayres has a natural flow for writing amusing
verses having a remarkable spontaneity about
them. Having a large fan-following this
contemporary poet has appeared in many popular
major TV shows. An author of six books of poem
she also has seven record albums to her credit.

3. The Inspiration – Oh, I Wish I'd Looked After Me Teeth
An Introduction
“Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth” expresses
the poet’s regret in adulthood regarding the
damage caused to her teeth due to her
carelessness. In her youth, she made fun of
mother’s false teeth but now she helplessly awaits
her turn when she would have to satisfy herself
with a set of false teeth as a result of negligence.

make hay while the sun shines. Good food habits
and a sense of dental hygiene needs to be

7. Types of Teeth - Incisors
Incisors (from the Latin word
incidere, meaning "to cut") are the
front teeth present in most
heterodont mammals. They are
located in the premaxilla above and
on the mandible below. Humans
have a total of eight (two on each
side, top and bottom). Opossums
have 18, whereas armadillos have
none.

In mammalian oral anatomy, the
canine teeth, also called cuspids, dog
teeth, fangs, or (in the case of those
of the upper jaw) eye teeth, are
relatively long, pointed teeth.
However, they can appear more
flattened, causing them to resemble
incisors and leading them to be
called incisiform.

transitional teeth located between the
canine and molar teeth. In humans,
there are two premolars per quadrant
in the permanent set of teeth, making
eight premolars total in the mouth.

'transitional tooth' during chewing, or
mastication.

12. Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping the
mouth and teeth clean to prevent dental
problems, most commonly, dental cavities,
gingivitis, and bad breath. There are also
oral pathologic conditions in which good
oral hygiene is required for healing and
regeneration of the oral tissues. These
conditions included gingivitis, periodontitis,
and dental trauma such as subluxation, oral
cysts and following wisdom tooth
extraction.

13. Whitening Treatments
Whitening treatments don't permanently
whiten teeth. If you expose your teeth to
foods and beverages that cause staining
you may see the whiteness start to fade in
as little as 1 month after treatment.
Those who avoid foods and beverages
that stain may be able to wait one year or
longer before whitening treatment or
touch-up is needed.

14. What to do to keep your teeth white and clean ?
1. Brush or rinse immediately after consuming stain-causing beverages or foods
2. Follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at
least once daily to remove plaque. Use whitening toothpaste (once or twice a week
only) to remove surface stains and prevent yellowing.
3. Consider touch-up treatments. Depending on the whitening method used, you may
need a touch-up every 6 months or after a year or two. If you drink lots of stain-causing
beverages, you may need a touch up more often.
4. If you do choose to consume beverages that stain, consider using a straw so that the
liquid bypasses your front teeth.
5. Foods that are firm or crisp help to clean the teeth as they’re eaten. Apples are one of
them and other choices include raw carrots, celery and (unsweetened) popcorn.
6. Don’t chew very hard foodstuffs such as hard candy or ice. Chewing hard food creates
tiny fractures in the enamel of your teeth that, combine to result in major cracks.
7. Throw away your toothbrush or change the head of your electric toothbrush at least
every two to three months. Otherwise, you’re just transferring bacteria to your mouth.

15. What Not to do to keep your teeth White and
Clean ?
1. Avoid the consumption of or exposure to products that stain your teeth, such as
coffee and tea.
2. Sipping sugary drinks throughout the day is another bad habit as the constant
exposure to sweet and acidic beverages can foster tooth decay.
3. Dentists report that patients rely on their teeth for a number of odd jobs: to tear
open a bag of crisps, uncap a bottle of nail varnish, or rip a price tag off a piece of
clothing. You must avoid such things. This can be hard on your teeth, causing the
edge of a weakened tooth to chip off or even break.
4. Reduce the biting of your nail, which can also harm your teeth.
5. Avoid crunching of ice cubes because the brittleness and cold temperature of ice
cubes can actually cause teeth to fracture.
6. Some people also try to crack nuts such as walnuts or hazel nuts with their teeth,
which can be equally hazardous to teeth.
7. Minimise the contact of drinks with your teeth; if you want to drink the drinks you
have to use a straw but the straw must be positioned toward the back of the mouth,
not resting against your teeth.
