1. Who are we: Western Abrasive Industries was established in 1967 on the west coast of India, very near to Bhatia bauxite mines, which house the best quality bauxite that can be used for manufacturing alumina based abrasives. “Crown” brand became the most sought after brand ,backed by consistently superior quality.
3. In 1987, it was taken over by owners of yet another emery manufacturing company. In it’s new avatar Western Abrasive Industries Private Limited soared to new heights, with efficient manufacturing processes, fool-proof quality control systems, new millennium technologies and progressive management team.
4. What we do: Emery as found in nature is a mainly a mixture of Corundum and iron oxide. Corundum is the toughest and hardest form of Aluminum oxide, which imparts the abrasive qualities to Emery. There are other minor contents like Silica, Titania,Calcia and Magnesia, which can alter the quality of Emery significantly. We manufacture emery by imitating natural process of converting bauxite to Emery. Appropriate grade of bauxite along with coke is charged in furnaces and subjected to extremely high temperatures till it melts. This molten mass is allowed to recrystallise as it cools, into a rock of Emery. This rock is crushed in stages and the crushed rock is graded to various particle sizes in vibrating screens. Where as Specifications as per the Indian Standards are followed for major part of the material, special in-house specifications have also been developed by experience for several applications like floor hardener. Customized gradings are also provided by working closely with the customer.
5. How we control Quality: We strive to supply CONSISTENT quality; same quality as per the sample approved by the customer. To accomplish this we : check the chemistry of the incoming bauxite keep a record of the fusion process test chemical and physical properties of the crushed rock test the final graded size check and test the packing material ensure net weight in the final packing inspect the cargo ready to be shipped A QC ticket accompanies the material as it clears various stages, and the final packing bears a QC id tag. The laboratory on our premises has capabilities for: Performing chemical analysis of bauxite and emery Checking specific gravity Checking friability (or it’s opposite :toughness) Particle size analysis upto grit no. 2500
6. Installed Capacity: Annually, 4500 to 5000 MT of Emery is manufactured in our plant. The installed capacity is 7500 MT of Emery annually. This capacity can be easily enhanced in a matter of days.
9. Applications Rice Polishing and Dehusking: “Crown” emery grains along with magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride are applied to the rice Sheller cone , in rice mills for polishing rice with minimum broken grains and faster output. The special rice polishing grade emery grains form a superior oxychloride bond and as a result the stone lasts longer.
10. Applications Flour Mill Stones:Similar to the above application, “Crown” emery grains are mixed with the magnesium oxide and magnesium chloride slurry and allowed to set in a mould to form a solid flour mill stone. Due to superior hardness, “Crown” emery grains help in better and longer lasting emery stones.
11. Applications Anti Skid and Non Wear Flooring: Either with oxychloride formulation or with plain Portland cement, “Crown” emery grains can be used as hard aggregates for anti skid and non wear flooring. This type of flooring is very useful in areas like warehouses with heavy forklift traffic, workshops where oil is spilled and heavy objects fall now and then, hospital ramps, reception areas with heavy foot traffic, ship decks, and treads of staircases and so on. Superior abrasive action of the “Crown” emery grains imparts better grip and resist the wear caused by heavy traffic. At toll booths on highways, such surface will provide good braking for the vehicles and add as a safety feature.
12. Applications Deburring and Descaling :Metal parts sheared and cut , left with unfinished edges can be deburred with “Crown” emery in minutes , by putting the parts in barrels and tumbling them along with coarse sized “Crown” emery grains. Similarly metal parts with rusty surface and salt deposits can be easily cleaned.
13. Applications Coated Abrasives:Specially graded “Crown” emery grains are best suited for manufacturing of coated abrasives like emery cloth & emery paper. The typical self sharpening action of the “Crown” emery grains with needle shaped grains and uniform grading make “Crown” emery grains the first choice for use in this application.
14. Applications Stainless Steel Polishing:“Crown’ emery grains and powder , applied on a cloth buff is widely and popularly used for polishing of metal articles like automobile accessories (car bumpers , door handles ) , dinnerware and table ware ( bowls, plates, knives, spoons, forks etc.) stainless steel balls for ball bearings and innumerable other stainless steel articles. The smaller individual crystal size, higher corundum content, and perfect sizing makes “Crown” emery the first and popular choice for Stainless steel polishing. This product can also be used in form of a emery compound or paste.
15. Applications Optical Lens Lapping:The finer grades ( 220 to 400 ) are used for lapping of optical lenses; either in lieu of other abrasives or before and after these abrasives.
17. Packaging Packing should be: Durable for it’s desired life Convenient to handle and Store Aesthetically pleasing Rationally priced Various modes of packaging according to the requirement of the customer are possible. Although the standard packaging is jute bag with appropriate liners; corrugated boxes, plastic buckets, plastic jars and many more options have been used for various customers. We also offer “Stretch wrapped pallets” upon request.
