1. Bacterial Vaginosis Cause
Many women do not realize that a very common bacterial vaginosis cause is the
chemicals that they come into contact with on a daily basis. Did you know that
your soap or toilet paper may be contributing to your ongoing recurrent
bacterial vaginosis?
So… to truly defeat bacterial vaginosis you have to change your shopping
habits and become an ultra picky customer. What do I mean by picky? I mean
picky in the sense that you actually read product labels and determine if they
contain any chemicals that may be a potential bacterial vaginosis cause. If you
happen upon a suspect ingredient… it’s your responsibility to avoid the product.
So what are some of the chemicals and additives you should avoid?
- Alcohol (Acts as a germicide in soaps)
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (Increases foam and lather)
- Artificial Flavors or Colors
- Propylene Glycol (Helps your skin maintain it’s moisture)
- Menthyl Benzethonium Chloride (Gives products a distinctive fragrance)
These are some super common ingredients that are constantly used in bath soaps
and body cleansing products. Don’t believe me? Go check your tooth paste right
now… I can almost guarantee that it contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
I learned that this was a common ingredient in all toothpastes from my dental
hygienist when I started to have an allergic reaction to it. It was pretty gross….
Whenever I brushed my teeth I had this strange film coat my mouth… I really
didn’t know what was wrong.
In the end I was informed that I was having a reaction to the Sodium Lauryl
Sulfate. It was a gross filmy substance. Sound like bacterial vaginosis at all?
Typically if you want to avoid these additives you should try to find stuff that’s
labeled as ‘All Natural’ or ‘Green’. The problem is that many companies simply
slap this label on a product without really changing any of the ingredients. So
once again, it’s really up to you to figure out what is in the product you are
buying.
The good thing about all these chemicals is that people’s opinions about them

2. are starting to be heard! The consumers are demanding more green and natural
products… and the companies are listening! You no longer have to go to a
specialty store to get natural ingredients… more and more big chains are
starting to carry them.
If you feel these kinds of products may be one of your bacterial vaginosis
causes you should also look for things that are labeled fragrance free. A lot of
times companies add toxic chemicals to your products because they smell nice.
Have you ever been allergic to a certain type of detergent? Has soap ever mad
your skin itchy? If so, you have probably shown an allergic reaction to the
chemicals or perfumes in your body care items.
Another fairly common bacterial vaginosis cause is the type of birth control you
use. It’s great to practice safe sex… but if you use condoms stick to the plain
varieties. Oftentimes condoms introduce chemicals into your vagina that upset
its balance. This is especially true if they have some spermicidal lubricants on
them.
