The Marine's take you as an individual, break you down to nothing, and throw you in with others
who are at the same level. Thus making your "Tribe" and through out the training cycle Loyalty to
your platoon, drill instructors, and Corps are beaten and instilled in you. Discipline which you
must show and demonstrate on a daily basis in order to complete and accomplish the mission or
task that is given to you. Honor is the binding value that is created whith the practice and

Quite a daunting read, The Warrior Ethos by retired Marine Steven Pressfield, is a short, non–fiction
book based off of the Warrior Ethos of the Ancient Spartan People. Although it is not probable that
there will be another organization that comes remotely close to comparing to the Spartans, this
book does serve as a good leadership tool for men and women who serve, but also for non–military
members who are looking to upheld a set of values to enhance the purpose they're fighting for.
Honor, shame and love stood out as the three main Ethos the Spartans upheld, with honor being the
one that took the most precedence in daily life. It seemed to be truly an honor to serve as a Spartan
and fight for a country

some of the most valiant souls that have stepped on our planet. Whether they are the firefighters

Personal Statement: Enforcing The Warrior Ethos
Being a leader is a privilege, not a requirement. It is not something that just happens overnight. I
took the time to develop myself and let others see that I am ready to lead. Being a leader is not
mandatory and everyone is not meant to lead. Becoming a leader carries responsibilities to promote
professional growth, mentorship, professional development, etc. In the military, you have superiors,
peers, and subordinates that look up to you to set the example and ultimately shape them into better

honor and loyalty to country and family above everything else. These values began to develop
among the samurai and eventually became the warrior class's code of conduct. Bushido was

years the principle tenets of Bushido changed and varied, but a general emphasis on loyalty to

When she was born, her mother, Leonie the Strong looked at her with love in her heart that
spilled out into her eyes and was upon her face for all to see. Her father Kevin the Unsure, loved
her also and showed his love by working hard, for that was all he knew. He worked day and night
cooking food for the winged warriors to keep them strong. He wished to spend more time with his
family, but felt easier in the presence of the warriors. Naming day came and after much
consideration Leonie the Strong decided to call the little one Vicki–ann; a magical two–fold name
that means strong one who can call upon her ancestors for protection. All was well and Vicki–ann
grew strong and was happy. She was too young to know about the world around her and was safe in
her own little world. She gained a sister Jo–anne and the two little girls didn't know that tragedy was
just around the corner, lurking in the shape of a Taniwha, Waipero (alcohol). Their mother had met
Waipero numerous times and was familiar with his wily ways– this is told in another story. Suffice
to say that they were old foes. The girls' father could not protect the family. He was lost in a great
sadness and confusion that his family had grown apart and he felt powerless to stop it. Leonie was
weak and desperate from another onslaught with no protection and called upon the help of a
wizened old man who promised aid. He took Leonie and her daughters away and she went willingly
for she was weary of the battle

Most militaries exhibit shame–based characteristics due to the fact that said characteristics are all
required to run an organized and efficient military. Contrary to this, most civilian organizations are
guilt–based, and rely on the individual's fortitude and conscience to instill discipline in him/herself.
Another facet of the warrior ethos that Pressfield discusses is the brotherhood that all warriors
share regardless of upbringing or personal beliefs. It is commonly known that military members
who share harsh, traumatic, or even funny events become closer through the bond of a mutual

It's not very often that you stumble upon a gem of the past. Society has become so tech–savvy that
they refuse to acknowledge any old media of the past. If it's tape or is absent of any CGI, it's
seemingly not worth our time. This is why the film "The Warriors" came as such a surprise to me. I
have never been so intrigued with something older than myself.
The movie begins with masses of New York gangs congregating together to listen to Cyrus, a
powerful gang leader. Cyrus' speech was intended to unite the several gangs and establish a peaceful

I found the Warriors ongoing chase to be very apocalyptic. It's as if they're the last survivors of a
zombie quarantine. The other gangs will stop at nothing to hunt them down in hopes to reap both
reward and revenge. I found this to be so intriguing because our protagonists are perhaps the furthest
away from home in the most street violent state. As their journey continued, more and more
members of the gang would sadly fall to hunters; leaving only few to actually make it home. Yet, The
Warriors stayed true to this common situation in movies of, "it's not over yet." Once the Warriors
returned home, perhaps the most riveting and chilling event occurred in the history of 20th century
movies. Luther, the main antagonist and the man who shot Cyrus, slowly strolls by the Warriors and
eerily says, "Warriors, come out and play–ay". No event in films has created this blend of unease
and fascination such as this scene in The Warriors. It has become such a hallmark to this film that

The soldier's creed is a motto that every soldier who enters the US Army. Within it is held a set of
standards and values that the Army holds itself by. The Warrior Ethos is one of the most important

capture of hill 775 when the enemy counterattacked. In defense against the counter attack, PFC
Brown had soon expended all of his ammunition for his rifle and took small arms fire, including
taking a wound in the defense of the hill. With no rifle rounds remaining to use on the assaulting
enemy, he utilized what he had hand grenades. However, that supply soon ran out and he was

peered over the defensive position from which Brown was holding, he swung his tool at each of

Brown's actions as well as that of the inspiration he had shown to his allies in defense of the position

The tough, muscular characters in Lee Tamahori's ferocious "Once Were Warriors" are primed for
fighting. And they need no battlefield: their hostilities are played out in the bedroom, in front of
the children or in crowded bars. In his visceral first feature, Mr. Tamahori offers social realism
with a savage kick, depicting Maori New Zealanders whose ties to their own history have been
destroyed. Left floundering in an inhospitable urban world, they have lost touch with their tribal past

Once Were Warriors is beautifully and powerfully casted film, directed by Lee Tamahor and casted
by Temuera Morrison (Jake Heke), Rena Owen (Beth Heke) and Mamaengaroa Kerr–Bell (Grace
Heke). Jake is a man with high temper and his unpredictability in a number of issues is most
fear–provoking thing concerning him. In many occasions, Jake play the character of the friendly,
beer–swilling crowd as he plays his guitar and sing favorite songs to all, particularly in wee hours
of the night with his drunken friends. But his true colors are revealed when a person crosses his
line, he can pounce in blink of a second, with fury boiling over. Jake together with his wife (Beth)
are Maoris, New Zealanders staying in housing development. Both the husband and wife are
good–looking individuals, where Jake in his luminous, sleepy–eyed and self–contented smile that
appears as if he's full of confidence. But the heart of the matter is that he's not. Amazingly, beer
seems to be the one that fuels his bitterness, anger and insecurities, and disguises his strength. The
climax of Jake's capabilities is illustrated in an early scene in the film where he engages in a fight
while in bar by imposing greater damage on a well–built thug who appeared to have defeated every
person in his sight until he met Jake. This is a significant scene since it shows what Jake is capable
