Recommendation Report to Johns Hopkins Hospital about Having Onsite Child Daycare
Introduction
Staff members in Johns Hopkins Hospital are usually preoccupied with the varied tasks
that are assigned to them at the workplace (Snyder et al. 365). This is such that those with
children in their care or children of their own hardly find time to attend to the distinctive needs of
their children. The number of hours that workers take in carrying out most of their duties on a
consistent basis is always unpredictable owing to the fact that there are times that individuals
were forced to work during the nights and in some occasions during the weekends. In most
occasions, the training processes for employees at Hopkins hospital usually take place at a time
when children need their caregivers most.
Presently, most childcare centers do not offer full time services thus allowing medical
practitioners at Hopkins Hospital to partake to their varied duties in the best way possible. Most
importantly, the number of women employed within Hopkins hospital is exceptionally high. In
line with this, because of it being that childbearing issues are always women’s role, there is need
for on-site childcare centers at Hopkins in order to serve the best interests of women with
children (Snyder et al. 366). Even with it being that childcare issues have always been
considered to affect women the fact is that childcare issues affect both men and women more so
amid medical practitioners that serve in more than one profession.
Surname 2
One of the solitary reasons why it would be important for the officials at Hopkins
hospital to instigate on-site childcare centers is because it would help majority of workers to save
on their budget. It is without a doubt that the childcare centers that staff members at Hopkins rely
on in catering for the varied needs of their children are expensive. Therefore, by creating an on-
site childcare center at the hospital, employees would not only be able to save on their cost but
they would also be in a better position of carrying out their distinctive duties in great assurance
of the safety and wellbeing of their children (Clutterbuck 14). On-site childcare centers would
also be in close range with the employees at the hospital thus allowing them the opportunity to
check on their children whenever they saw fit. The fact that employees would be able to save on
their expenditure would help in motivating workers to employ more effort in carrying out their
duties. Subsequently, increased efforts as elicited by workers at the hospital would lead to the
betterment of the establishment as a whole and the issuance of improved services to patients who
attend the hospital with diverse ailments. Lack of childcare options at Hopkins would have dire
consequences for the establishment and its employees. The strains that employees undergo in
going about their daily duties at Hopkins while at the same time looking for centers at which
their children would be cared for prevent persons from undergoing growth and development as
physicians.
The instigation of an on-site childcare center at Hopkins would help the establishment to
retain most of its workforce. This is because most persons would prefer to continue working at
the hospital because of the childcare services that they would be able to acquire from their
institution of employment (Connelly et al. 12). If in any case the establishment decides to charge
a small fee for the child care services that they would provide to their workers the hospital would
be able to benefit from the revenue that it would attain from the on-site childcare center. The
Surname 3
revenue that would be obtained from on-site childcare centers can be used in developing other
segments of the establishment including the laboratory section of the hospital.
Most couples at Hopkins who operate as physicians work on a full time basis. Hence,
these individuals hardly find time to attend to the needs of members of their families more so
their children. On-site childcare centers would be of increasing benefits to employees at Hopkins
because such centers would be developed with the highest standards of quality and precision.
Therefore, employees would carry out their tasks with the knowledge that their children are safe
and receiving the best care one could think of in life. Most of all, employees at the hospital
would not have to rearrange their work schedules in order to fit in childcare responsibilities in
the middle of their work period. Consequently, the time and effort that individuals now spend in
attending to the dissimilar needs of their children would be spent in working towards the goals of
the hospital.
On-site childcare centers would enable physicians at John Hopkins to enhance their
expertise in different fields through their involvement in additional studies. Currently, numerous
employees with children at this establishment find it hard to engage in additional studies or
research work due to the prolonged period they took in caring for their children (Iserson 15).
When it comes to children, individuals would prefer to carry forward their jobs or any other
activities that they engaged in just so that they could stay close to their newborn babies. Some of
the workers at Hopkins took a great deal of time to get promotions in their line of duty because
of the amount of time they spent looking after their children a time that would have otherwise
been spent in advancing one’s career.
Surname 4
The rate at which physicians requested for a time away from work so that they could
attend to their sick children would also be minimized with the inception of on-site childcare
centers (Musial 24). Medical requirements of the children of staff members at the hospital would
be attended to adequately and professionally thus saving employees at the establishment time
and resources. In the end, employees at John Hopkins hospital would be more capable of
delivering the best quality of work in their areas of jurisdiction because they would have little to
worry about the status of their children whenever they attended to their patients. The inception of
an on-site childcare center would provide Hopkins hospital with an added advantage over its
competitors who did not incorporate child day care services as part of their operations.
Conclusion
In most organizations today, the issue of childcare has developed into a very significant
subject of discussion for both employees and their employers. The world of today has developed
into an entity in which all persons are required to work in order to cater for their varied needs
including men and women who had teenagers they were expected to attend to at all times
regardless of how busy they might seem in partaking to their work duties. It is beyond any doubt
that employees at John Hopkins hospital do not embrace the old ways of living the entailed
individuals’ reliance on the man as the sole breadwinner while the woman was charged with the
role of attending to the house chores and caring for the children. Women were mainly referred to
as the ‘homemakers’. It is high time John Hopkins hospital transformed its trends of operation by
instituting an on-site childcare center that would for the distinctive needs of employees at the
establishment who had children. With these projects in place, as part of John Hopkins hospital,
parents who are employed at the hospital would be able to fully take part in the growth of their
economy. Similarly, persons would be able to attain the much needed time and resources to
Surname 5
invest in their children. Overall, the hospital management team would be able to experience
increased success in most of their undertakings because the time that would have otherwise been
spent on attending to children amid their employees would be spent in bettering the hospital.
Further, what is important for the success of any establishment is the management’s ability to
provide their employees with some breathing room so that they could carry out their tasks in the
most proficient manner. One of the ways through which the management team at John Hopkins
hospital would be able to provide their workers with the much-needed breathing space would be
by incorporating on-site childcare centers as part of their institutes.
