1. What is an organization?
A social unit of people that is structured and
managed to meet a need or to pursue a
collective goal. Management structure
determines relationships between the
different activities and the members, and
subdivides roles/responsibilities, and
authority to carry out different tasks.
Organizations are open systems – they affect
and are affected by their environment
3. 1. Large companies
•Has at least 5000 employees
•Annual turnover greater than
1.5 billion euros/pesos and a
balance sheet total of more
than 2 billion euros/pesos
(Panasonic, Apple, IBM,
Ayala, San Miguel Corp.)

Enterprise that provides certain
services to the public, including
common carrier transportation;
telephone and telegraph; power/ light;
facilities for water and similar

Organization that does not earn profits for its owners. All of the money
earned by or donated to a not for profit organization is used in pursuing
the organization's objectives. Typically not for profit organizations are
charities or other types of public service

information development institution with programs in research,
education and advocacy based in the Philippines.

profit establishment that provides education to the impoverished and

• An association is a group of persons banded
together for a specific purpose. To qualify under
section 501(a) of the Code, the association must
have a written document, such as articles
of association, showing its creation
