Welcome to our monthly Webinar everyone! My name is Christel and I am here together with Anne, we are both Analysts at Distimo and would like to follow up on our most recent publication:Global BrandsIn the mobile landscapeAnne wrote this report and will share some of the main findings with you in this webinar.
First a few words about Distimo for those of you who don’t know us that well, yet:We are an app analytics company, so we analyze the mobile app stores… We support all major app stores globally, like of course the Apple App store for iPhone and iPad, Google Play, the Amazon Appstore and you name it…In addition to these app stores, we also support some of the main ad networks as iAd or AdMob within our main product: App AnalyticsThis service basically enables an aggregated overview of your combined app data across all stores and ad networks in a nice dashboard, enabling mobile app developers to track their performance in terms of Revenue & Downloads – completely free of charge. In addition to this we also offer options for in app Conversion Tracking and of course an API for all our data, but our other main product is AppIQ: this offers you information about your competitors and general benchmarks
In AppIQ we provide daily download and revenue estimations, this enables you to analyze any app in the market – whether it is your competitor, potential partner or an investment opportunity. So you really get a detailed overview about the app of your interest or even the market as a whole…. The data we present in our publications is mainly based on AppIQ and I’ll give the word to Anne now, who will present some of this data with a focus on apps from Top Globale Brands…
We used Interbrands the 2013 edition of its Best Global Brands report. We sourced this report and matched all downloads and revenue data from related publishers from October 2013. The data for donwloads and revenue from Distimo AppIQ. We published on this topic two times before. We’ll try the get some findings from those report into this webinar.
We also looked into top global last year and the year before. This is an overview of the presence of the global top brands of 2011. The presence is the highest on iphone /iOS -86%followed by android 59%and amazon ??.
The Apple App Store leading the way as the top app store for apps from the topglobal brands. Although apps from top global brands are appearing more frequently in the other two of the app storesas well. The Apple App Store has the highest presence of apps from top global brands. Google Play has also a highpresence of apps. In the Apple App Store, 92 of the top 100 best global brands ranked by Interbrand were present, while on Google Play there were 75 brands present. The Amazon Appstore had the least amount of brands, with only28.Some examples of brands missing in the apple appstore are:BurberryCoronaGilletteJack Daniel'sJohnnie WalkerKleenexNintendoThe same names are missing as well in Google Play and Amazon App Store.
In 2012 we focused on the Apple App Store. The top global brands of 2012 were highly represented by Sony, Disney, Samsung, MTV and SAP.
Compared to 2012 we see that Sony/disney and samsung continue there strong presence. Where Volkswagen and Nestle are new in this top list. top global brands with the most apps per store. As we mentioned earlier, there’s overlapamong the stores; Among the Apple App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore, Disney and Sony had the mostapps.
So now lets see when we take the number of downloads into account and look which sectors are dominant in terms of downloads. The top two sectors that saw the most downloads in the Apple App Store and Google Play were Technology followed by Media. For the Amazon App Store, Media was theNo. 1 sector followed by Technology at No. 2 and Retail at No. 3.We just released a blog on downloads increase of some retail apps around Thanksgiving and Black Friday. So if you want know about retail apps (not perse Global Brands) check our blog The Automotive sector, one of the more standout sectors, accounted for example 1.4% of downloads among all theapps from the top global brands in the Apple App Store. The apps with the most downloads from brands/sectors were brands/sectors that are service-orientedbusinesses.
This is it in terms of slides and now I would like to hand it over to Tiuri again for a live demo of our AppIQ data with some additional examples for the discussed topics
