D. Glass Associates: Licensing, Tech Transfer and Strategic Patent Management
1. D. Glass Associates, Inc.
Licensing, Technology Transfer and Patent Management
D. Glass Associates, Inc. (DGA) offers expert assistance to academic institutions as well as
biotechnology and medical device companies in the management of many aspects of the patent and
licensing process and industry-academic relations.
D. Glass Associates can assist academic institutions (universities, medical centers and
research institutions) that are temporarily short-handed due to staff turnover, maternity/paternity
leave, or that do not maintain full-time tech transfer staff. DGA can cost-effectively handle many
tech transfer functions on an outsourced basis and can also help licensing offices in assessing,
marketing and licensing inventions and in negotiating a variety of tech transfer agreements.
Technology Transfer, Licensing, and Industrial Relations
• Commercial assessments of new inventions.
• Preparation of marketing materials for new inventions, identify and contact potential corporate
licensees.
• Negotiate, or assist in negotiation of, tech transfer agreements including license and option
agreements, sponsored research agreements, CDAs and other industry contracts.
Management of In-House Patents and Inventions

• Work with outside attorneys to review draft patent applications and facilitate attorney-inventor
interactions.
• Provide strategic guidance and direction for ongoing patent prosecution.

Small to midsize companies can often benefit from the outsourcing of functions relating to
academic relations, licensing and patent management. DGA has extensive experience
dealing with major universities and academic medical centers. In addition, patent and
licensing activities are often among the easiest corporate functions to outsource, and DGA
can provide this service more cost-effectively than delegating the tasks to outside patent
counsel.
Management of In-House Patent Portfolios
• Monitor scientific developments at the company and at academic partners to identify
patentable inventions.
• Liaison to outside attorneys in patent preparation and prosecution.
• Monitor a company's in-house portfolio, to provide strategic guidance and direction.
• Analyze the strength of proprietary or competing intellectual property, as part of strategic
planning efforts.
Liaison to Academic Institutions
• Negotiate agreements for academic alliances, including license and option agreements,
sponsored research agreements, confidentiality and materials transfer agreements.
• Monitor and provide strategic direction for patent portfolios in-licensed from academic or
corporate partners.
