3. Acts Is Good
• Read it through
• Listen to it on tape
• Or, watch the video.
4. The Bible Shows the Dispensations
• The Bible Shows the Dispensations
• Innocence, Gen. 1:28
• Conscience, Gen. 3:7
• Human Government, Gen. 8:15
• Promise, Gen. 12:1
• Law, Ex. 19:1
• Church Age (Age of Grace), Acts 2:1
• Kingdom Age, Rev.20:4
5. Dispensations
• God gives a command as an expression of His will
• Man breaks God commandment
• God punishes mans rebellion
• God institutes another dispensation
• Gen 9:1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be
fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.
• Gen 11:4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a
tower that reaches to the heavens, …and not be scattered over the
face of the whole earth."
• Gen 11:9…the Lord confused the language of the whole world.
From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole
earth.
• Gen 12:1 The Lord had said to Abram… [New Covenant]
7. Pentecost
• Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they
were all together in one place.
• Pentecost means "fiftieth“
• The Jews had 7 major feasts
• 3 in the 1st. month of the ecclesiastical year;
Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread and
Firstfruits
• 1 more 50 days after Firstfruits
• 3 in the 7th. Month; Feast of Trumpets, Yom
Kippur, Feast of Tabernacles
8. Pentecost
• 3 in the 1st. month of the ecclesiastical year;
• Passover= Lamb of God
• Feast of Unleavened Bread= Christ was
without sin. Rom 11:16 If the part of the
dough offered as firstfruits is holy, then the
whole batch is holy…
• Firstfruits= Resurrection; 1 Cor 15:23 But
each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits…
9. Pentecost
• Firstfruits= Resurrection
• Pentecost was celebrated 50 days after Firstfruits
(Resurrection)
• Lev 23:9-14= Firstfruits
• Lev 23:15-22= Pentecost
• Even Dr. Ryrie makes no mention of the purpose
of Pentecost (pg. 187, chart, Study Bible).
• Easton's Bible Dictionary says, “The purpose of
this feast was to commemorate the completion of
the grain harvest.”
• Luke 10:2-3…Ask the Lord of the harvest,
therefore, to send out workers into his harvest
field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs….
10. 7 Jewish Feasts,
Jewish Timeline Of All History?
• First 3 spring feasts make me think of the Jewish tabernacling,
communing, interaction, and celebration with YHWH in the Old
Testament.
• Then there is a short period without celebration (50 days till
Pentecost, Shavuot). Makes me think of the 450 silent years, the
Intertestamental period.
• Then the LORD comes to His own; NAU John 1:11 He came to His
own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. (Mark
15:12-13)
• Then Pentecost (church begins) and begins a long dry time for
national Israel, with no celebrating with the LORD (2000 years).
• After Jesus comes and snatches His bride away (Rapture), then the
Jews will fulfill Matthew 23:39, Christ will save the remnant of
Israel. The 3 fall feasts will then be completed; #They will be called,
#2, Atonement will be made, #3 They will tabernacle with YHWH.
11. Acts 2:1, All Together In One Place
• Acts 2:1…they were all together in one place.
• Many think this (one place) was at the temple.
• 120 (1:15), 3,000 baptized in one day (vs. 41).
12. Acts 2:1, Many 1 Time Miracles
• NAU Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost had come…
• 2 ...a noise like a violent rushing wind...
• 3 ...tongues as of fire ... rested on each one of them.
• 4 ...all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak
with other tongues [16 different languages]...
• 5 ...Jews ...from every nation under heaven. 6...hearing
them speak in his own language.
• When God makes an ax head float, splits the Red Sea,
gushes water out of a rock, theses are one time events
to get Israel’s attention. He does not repeat them!
13. Acts 2:1, Many 1 Time Miracles
• Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost had come…
• NAU Numbers 11:25 Then the LORD came down in
the cloud and spoke to him; and He took of the
Spirit who was upon him and placed Him upon
the seventy elders. And when the Spirit rested
upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do
it again.
• You can rejoice that God doesn't always do the
same thing every time.
• Acts 5:3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan
filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit
14. All Miracles Are Not A Blessing
And Signs, Wonders, And Miracles Ceased
• Not everyone who asked experienced healing and
miraculous deliverance. Steven was murdered Acts 7,
believers suffered at the hands of Saul (8:1–3); James
was decapitated by Herod Agrippa (12:2); Paul was
stoned in (14:19), he suffered whipping, beatings, and
imprisonment, and extreme perils (2 Cor. 11:24–33).
These signs, wonders, and miracles were transitional,
temporary, and are not normative now. Church history
documents that these signs of an apostle passed away
with the apostles. Even in the book of Acts they are
fading and the last one third of the book from chapter
22 to the end (about one third of the text) there only
two or three of these miraculous events recorded.
15. All Miracles Are Not A Blessing
And Signs, Wonders, And Miracles Ceased
• The purpose of all of these signs, wonders,
and miracles in the beginning of this
transitional book called Acts, was to wake up
and shake up the Jews that they might
understand, and act on, this new dispensation
that God was initiating. To repent of their
rejection of Messiah, and receive Him as Lord
and Savior. It also was to verify and confirm
the apostles as prophets of God. As
authoritative agents to write the New
Testament.
16. Acts 2:2, Sound Like A Violent Wind
• Acts 2:2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of
a violent wind came from heaven and filled
the whole house where they were sitting.
• “like” the blowing of a violent wind (simile)
• It wasn’t a violent wind!
• Many equate this with the sound of tornados.
• This, no doubt, was what drew 3000 people.
17. Acts 2:3, as, like, something like
• Acts 2:3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of
them.
• CSB Acts 2:3 … like flames of ...
• KJV, NAU, ESV, NKJ , NAS Acts 2:3 … as of …
• NET Acts 2:3 … like a fire ...
• BGT Acts 2:3 … γλῶσσαι ὡσεὶ

these people and that you, O Lord, have been seen face to
face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go
before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by
night….
• Neh 9:19 "Because of your great compassion you did not
abandon them in the desert. By day the pillar of cloud did
not cease to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire
by night to shine on the way they were to take…

with the Holy Spirit."

came together in bewilderment, because each one
heard them speaking in his own language. 7 Utterly
amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are
speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us
hears them in his own native language? 9 Parthians,
Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea
and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and
Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;
visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to
Judaism); Cretans and Arabs — we hear them declaring
the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12 Amazed
and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does
this mean?"

in their homes and ate together with glad and
sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the
favor of all the people. And the Lord added to
their number daily those who were being saved.
