7. WORLD
1 Cor 11:32 When we are judged by the
Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will
not be condemned with the world.
[the world is condemned]
Rom 5:12…sin entered the world through
one man…
[the world is sinful]
Eph 6:12 For our struggle is…against the
powers of this dark world.
[the world is dark]
8. BODY
Rom 6:6 For we know that our old self was
crucified with him so that the body of sin might
be done away with,
Rom 7:24-25 What a wretched man I am! Who
will rescue me from this body of death?
However, if you are ―born again‖….
1 Cor 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body
is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not
your own; 20 you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your body.
9. HEALTH
Ps 38:3 Because of your [God’s] wrath there is
no health in my body; my bones have no
soundness because of my sin.
Matt 9:35-36 Jesus went through all the towns
and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, preaching the good news of the
kingdom and healing every disease and
sickness.
Rev 21:4 There will be no more death or
mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of
things has passed away.
10. MIND
Ps 26:2 Test me, O Lord, and try me, examine
my heart and my mind;
Rom 8:5-8 Those who live according to the
sinful nature have their minds set on what that
nature desires; but those who live in accordance
with the Spirit have their minds set on what the
Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death,
but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and
peace; 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It
does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 8
Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot
please God.
11. HEART
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is
deceitful above
all things and
beyond cure.
Who can
understand it?
12. JESUS CAN GIVE US A NEW HEART
"A precocious 4-year-old was brought to the
ER with a severe cough," a nurse writes.
"She kept up a non-stop conversation while I
was trying to assess her lung sounds.
Finally, I said, 'Shhh, I have to see if Barney
is in there.‘
The child looked at me and calmly stated, 'I
have Jesus in my heart. Barney is on my
underwear.' "
13. NO WONDER WE LOOK FORWARD TO;
Rev 22:3 No longer
will there be any
curse. The throne of
God and of the
Lamb will be in the
city, and his
servants will serve
him.
14. GENESIS 3:1
Genesis 3:1 Now the
serpent was more
crafty than any beast
of the field which the
LORD God had made.
And he said to the
woman, "Indeed, has
God said, 'You shall
not eat from any tree
of the garden?"
15. "DID GOD REALLY SAY”

There is an insinuation that challenges whether
God really would say something like that.
―Is God so narrow minded as to limit…‖
16. THE SERPENT IS YOUR “CRAFTY” ENEMY
1 Peter 5:8 Be
of sober spirit,
be on the alert.
Your adversary,
the devil,
prowls around
like a roaring
lion, seeking
someone to
devour.
17. GENESIS 3:1, THE SERPENT
Satan is our enemy, and is dangerous. The Bible
calls Satan the serpent, a dragon, a deceiver, a
roaring lion who devours, "Abaddon" and "Apollyon"
which mean "destroyer"
"Satan" which means "adversary"; and "devil" which
means "slanderer.―
Jesus called Satan a murderer and "the father of
lies." He, Paul and John all called him the evil one―(1
Thess 3:3; 1 John 3:12).
Paul said Satan was "the god of this age" (2 Cor
4:4), the ruler of the world system (Eph 2:2), and the
leader of demonic forces of evil (Eph 6:10-12).
18. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH OUR
WORLD?
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is
veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,
4 in whose case the god of this world has
blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that
they might not see the light of the gospel of
the glory of Christ, who is the image of God."
19. ANY TREE?
'You must not eat from any tree in the
garden'?―
You mean God is limiting your choices? That
doesn’t seem fair.
20. EVE’S RESPONSE
Genesis 3:2-3 "The woman said to the
serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we
may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the
middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat
from it or touch it, or you will die.'
But, Gen 2:16-17 says, ―The Lord God commanded
the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you
may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that
you eat from it you will surely die.― NASU
Eve subtracted from and added to God’s words.
21. SATAN SAID GOD IS WRONG
"You will not surely die―
The response of the serpent includes the
infinitive absolute with a blatant negation
equal to saying: ―Not – you will surely die‖
(Net Bible)
Satan started by casting doubt, now he
advances to outright denial. He still uses this
2 step approach.
22. THE 3 LUSTS OF TEMPTATION
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the
tree was good for food and pleasing to the
eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom
1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the
lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the
Father, but is of the world. KJV
23. ADAM KNOWINGLY SINNED
Rom 5:14…sin by breaking a command, as
did Adam…
1 Cor 15:22…as in Adam all die…
1 Tim 2:14 And Adam was not the one
deceived; it was the woman who was
deceived and became a sinner.
24. EVE WAS DECEIVED
2 Cor 11:3….just as Eve was deceived by the
serpent's cunning…
Is it possible that Adam willing gave up his
life to be with his gentile bride, as Christ did
for the church?
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ loved the church and gave himself up
for her
25. THE FIRST RELIGION
7 Then the eyes
of both of them
were opened, and
they realized they
were naked; so
they sewed fig
leaves together
and made
coverings for
themselves.
Religion = the self righteous covering of the
evidence of our sin
26. FIG LEAVES
A little boy opened the big family bible. He was
fascinated as he fingered through the old pages.
Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He
picked up the object and looked at it. What he
saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in
between the pages. "Mama, look what I
found", the boy called out. "What have you got
there, dear"?
With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he
answered,….
28. THEY HID FROM GOD, SEPARATED
Genesis 3:8…―and they hid from the Lord
God‖
Separated from God.
Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a
separation between you and your God, And
your sins have hidden His face from you so
that He does not hear.
Don’t let your sins separate you from God.
Don’t step into eternity with your sins
separating you from God.
29. THEY HID FROM GOD, SEPARATED
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly and
unbelieving and abominable and murderers
and immoral persons and sorcerers and
idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the
lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which
is the second death."
30. "WHERE ARE YOU?"
Gen 3:9 …."Where are you?"
God does not need a little info from Adam?
God seeks sinners;
Rom 3:11….no one who seeks God.
John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless
the Father who sent me draws him….
Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to
seek and to save what was lost."
31. WHAT IN THE WORLD
IS WRONG WITH OUR WORLD?
Gen 3:17…."Cursed is the ground
because of you; through painful toil
you will eat of it all the days of your
life….
32. THE PROBLEM IS SIN RATHER THAN SINS
Everybody seems to
want to look at
what's wrong with
the world
Without considering
their own sin nature.
33. SIN RATHER THAN SINS
If we could get people to see that we are all
one people, one family of fallen sinners, and
in the big picture, accountable to one
God, then we might understand that…
God is infinitely holy, just, and apart from sin.
Death is the ultimate sign that we have sin
According to the Bible there is nothing
natural about death…
34. SIN RATHER THAN SINS
" 1 Corinthians 15:21-26 For since by a man
came death, by a man also came the
resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam
all die, so also in Christ all will be made
alive…
…26 The last enemy that will be abolished is
death."
35. GARMENTS OF SKIN
Gen 3:21 The
Lord God made
garments of skin
for Adam and his
wife, and clothed
them.
The first religion
wasn’t good
enough
None of them are, because; ―penalty=death‖
36. GARMENTS OF SKIN
God didn’t allow man’s covering for sin
Heb 9:22-28…without the shedding of blood
there is no forgiveness… 27…it is appointed
for men to die once and after this comes
judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been
offered once to bear the sins of many, will
appear a second time for salvation without
reference to sin, to those who eagerly await
Him." [Rapture?, Biblical Holiday?]
37. TO GUARD THE WAY
Gen 3:24…to guard the way to the tree of life.
To guard the tree of life?
There could not be 2 “ways” to eternal life.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and
the truth and the life. No one comes to the
Father except through me.
Matt 26:39 My Father, if it is possible, may this
cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as
you will."
39. WHY IS THERE EVIL IN THE WORLD?
Genesis 3, mankind chose to sin, and follow Satan
Why doesn't a good God end evil in the world?
He is going to!
Matthew 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle
word that men shall speak, they shall give account
thereof in the day of judgment. KJV
So, a better question is ―Why don't I let God fix the
sin problem in me?‖
―Why don't I stop ignoring my sin condition, or trying
to cover my sins with the fig leaves of religion?‖
43. 2 Cor 5:18-19..through Christ and gave us
the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God
was reconciling the world to himself in Christ,
not counting men's sins against them. [the
world needs reconciliation]
44. GENESIS 3:14 “EATING DUST”
Genesis 3:14 ―eating dust‖ The depiction of dust or
dirt for food is typical of descriptions of the
netherworld in ancient literature. In the Gilgamesh
Epic, Enkidu on his deathbed dreams of the
netherworld and describes it as a place with no light
and where ―dust is their food, clay their bread,‖ a
description also known from the Descent of Ishtar.
These are most likely considered characteristic of the
netherworld because they describe the grave. Dust
fills the mouth of the corpse, but dust will also fill the
mouth of the serpent as it crawls along the ground.
IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament
DLK, ―All these authors descended from Noah.
45. GENESIS 3:14 “EATING DUST”
The idea of being brought low, of ―eating
dust‖ as it were, is a symbol of humiliation.

46. DEALING WITH THE SERPENT
Eph 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and
in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of
God so that you can take your stand against the
devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not
against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of
this dark world and against the spiritual forces of
evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on
the full armor of God, so that when the day of
evil comes, you may be able to stand your
ground, and after you have done everything, to
stand.
47. GENESIS 3:14 “EATING DUST”
Gen 3:19…For you are dust, And to dust you
shall return.―…
1 Cor 15:47 The first man was of the dust of
the earth….
Gen 13:16…I will make your [Abram]
offspring like the dust of the earth…
Gen 28:14….Your [Jacob] descendants will
be like the dust of the earth…
Could it be God is referring to the ―enmity‖?
48. DEALING WITH THE SERPENT
Eph 6:14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth
buckled around your waist, with the breastplate
of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet
fitted with the readiness that comes from the
gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take
up the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of
the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray
in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of
prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert
and always keep on praying for all the saints.
49. THE SERPENT YOUR ENEMY
Jude 8-10 In the very same way, these
dreamers [false teachers] pollute their own
bodies, reject authority and slander celestial
beings. 9 But even the archangel Michael, when
he was disputing with the devil about the body
of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous
accusation against him, but said, "The Lord
rebuke you!" 10 Yet these men speak
abusively against whatever they do not
understand; and what things they do understand
by instinct, like unreasoning animals — these
are the very things that destroy them.
50. THE SERPENT, A TALKING SNAKE?
NET BIBLE Notes, Many theologians identify or
associate the serpent with Satan. In this view Satan
comes in the disguise of a serpent or speaks through
a serpent. This explains the serpent’s capacity to
speak. While later passages in the Bible may indicate
there was a satanic presence behind the serpent
(see, for example, Rev 12:9), the immediate context
pictures the serpent as simply one of the animals of
the field created by God (see vv. 1, 14). An ancient
Jewish interpretation explains the reference to the
serpent in a literal manner, attributing the capacity to
speak to all the animals in the orchard. This text (Jub.
3:28) states,
51. THE SERPENT, A TALKING SNAKE?
―On that day [the day the man and woman were expelled
from the orchard] the mouth of all the beasts and cattle
and birds and whatever walked or moved was stopped
from speaking because all of them used to speak to one
another with one speech and one language [presumed to
be Hebrew, see 12:26].‖ Josephus, Ant. 1.1.4 (1.41)
attributes the serpent’s actions to jealousy. He writes that
―the serpent, living in the company of Adam and his wife,
grew jealous of the blessings which he supposed were
destined for them if they obeyed God’s behests, and,
believing that disobedience would bring trouble on them,
he maliciously persuaded the woman to taste of the tree
of wisdom.‖
52. FIG LEAVES
If fig leaves with the first attempt by man to cover his
own sinfulness;
It’s interesting that the only tree Jesus cursed was a
fig tree, the morning after the triumphal entry, on His
way back to Jerusalem;
Matt 21:19…he said to it, "May you never bear fruit
again!" Immediately the tree withered.
"John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you
want to do the desires of your father. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in
the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever
he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for
he is a liar and the father of lies."
53. GEN 3:20
Gen 3:20….Eve, because she was the mother of all
the living.
Moses’ commentary?
Genesis 3:20-24, Adam's faith and God's provision
are noted in these verses. God would save them and
ensure that they would not live forever in this state.
Adam's faith is seen in his naming his wife Eve (lit.,
"living"). Thus Adam was looking to the future and not
primarily to death. Eve's faith is seen later (4:1) when
she named her firstborn Cain because he was from
the Lord.

Phil 3:18-20…many live as enemies of the

So, having a ―mind is on earthly things‖ is an
