26. PRACTICE TIME! • Take 10 minutes and practice uploading a file or develop an HTML Block! • Remember, if you need to go over the directions, the presentation is on Moodle, Week 2!
28. Putting A Week’s Worth of Resources Into Moodle “Our 2nd Task” To view the resources, we need to get them from our computer and onto Moodle: 1. Find the folder that you want to upload, right-click on it, and select “Compressed (zipped) Folder” within the “Send To” option. You’ll get another folder with the same name, but “Zip” format, Go to your Moodle course page, and in the “Administration” box, click “Files”. As we have done before, click on “Upload” and upload the zipped folder (it ends in .zip) Now click on “Unzip”, which is displayed to the right of your folder name, and the folder will be restored to its normal size.
29. Putting A Week’s Worth of Resources Into Moodle (continued) What just happened? We put a week’s worth of materials onto Moodle. We Did this by “zipping” the material to make it slide into Moodle. We then uploaded the file and unzipped it. If you want to be organized, select the checkbox displayed to the left of the zipped folder and select “delete completely”. We do not need the zipped folder now, as we have the original folder back.
31. Displaying a Folder on Moodle “Our 3rd Task” This requires only 4 simple steps: With editing turned on, click on “Add a Resource” and choose “Display a directory” In the “Name” field, type something meaningful for the students to click on and add a “Summary” field if you want. Click on “Display a Directory” and find the one that you want. 4. Scroll down and click on “Save and return to course”.
32. Displaying a Folder on Moodle “Our 3rd Task” (continued) What just happened? We made a link to a week’s worth of materials on our ‘ course page, instead of displaying them one at a time. We now get a folder icon. When the text next to the folder is clicked, the folder opens and all materials can be seen This is more pleasing to the eye than is a long list of materials.
33. PRACITICE TIME ONCE AGAIN!!! Upload a folder, even if it is for practice. Then make a directory to “show” your folder!
35. Making a “Click Here” Link to a Web Site Our 4th Task Click on “Add a resource” to discover the drop down menu. Release on “Link to a file or web site”. Add “Name” (This becomes your hyperlink.) Add summary if you want, “Link to file or web site”, add the URL or “search for web page” and then copy the URL. Decide is you want a new window or the same window. “Save and return to course”.
37. Creating a worksheet directly in Moodle Our 5th Task With the editing turned on, go to “Add a resource”, and click on “Compose a web page”. In the “Name” field, type the text that students will have to click on to access the page. Then, scroll down to compose a web page. 38. Creating a worksheet directly in Moodle Our 5th Task What just happened? We have now created a worksheet, reference sheet, etc., directly in Moodle, without the need to create it offline first, and then upload it from Moodle. Not all students have Microsoft Office installed, but they can click on the Internet. This solves the problems of different formats, platforms, etc.
40. Improving the Appearance of Your Site Our 6thTask (continued) A long list of worksheets on your site is not pleasant in appearance to the eye of a student. Two things can change this: Put them in a folder and show only that folder (“display directory”. Add a bit of white space between the worksheets to separate them and categorize them. We know about the directory, let’s explore the white space.
41. Improving the Appearance of Your Site Our 6th Task (continued) Creating the “white space”: With the editing turned on, go to “Add a resource” and choose “Insert a label”. Type in some text in order to separate or categorize a number of worksheets. 3. Click “Save and return to course”.
42. PRACTICE TIME! Create a worksheet in Moodle, add a hyperlink or insert a label!
44. Assignment: Should be 30 Minutes of Time! 1. You must complete the Journal Activity for each week documenting the work that you did.
