In the late Ming Dynasty, snuff came to China and snuff bottles gradually developed. The skill of making snuff bottles flourished greatly during the Qing Dynasty. Inner snuff bottle painting first appeared during the Jiaqing era. This painting technique has since developed into a highly refined art form. Inner snuff bottle painting involves an artist etching vivid designs and calligraphy onto the inner surface of a bottle using a specially designed brush inserted through the bottle's neck. This creates exquisite miniature landscapes, still lifes, portraits and calligraphy that are prized by collectors.
