Lesotho is a small, landlocked country of about 2 million people entirely surrounded by South Africa. It was formerly known as Basutoland. The Basotho people speak Sesotho and recognize King Letsie III as their monarch. Lesotho produces about 90% of its own electricity through the Katse Dam funded by South Africa. It has a small manufacturing industry based on farm products. However, it faces challenges of providing healthcare as there are only about 90 doctors for 2 million people and HIV rates are very high.
