SESP  Objectives Assess seismic vulnerability of existing school buildings ,identify and implement measures to reduce the vulnerability through retrofitting of existing school buildings or construction of new school buildings. Raise awareness and build capacity on earthquake risks and preparedness of teachers, students, parents, local and government officials and the local communities.

An effort for Technology Transfer Through Mason Training Chhaling VDC About 60 New Earthquake resistance constructed by Trained masons in Community. Improved construction practices in SESP Community Disable friendly construction approach started Impacts & Good Practices
Collaboration with government , NGOs & INGOs Transparency of income and expenditure Approaches
Achievements Affordability of Seismic Improvement of School Buildings Established Mason Training Awareness Raising, Training of Teachers, Parents, and Children and Community People Replication Two village development committee office buildings built in Bhaktapur as a result of replication Around 20 buildings near Nateshwori School has been constructed as a result of replication
Trust Building All institutions were involved in the project activities right from its planning phase. Flow of information and “keeping everybody informed” helped NSET to build up and sustain the trust Achievements
Expected Output By The End Of 2010 National Strategy For Improving Seismic Safety of School in Nepal National Strategy for Disaster Preparedness in Schools
Lesson learned from SESP School is the best  point to enter into community level School Earthquake Safety Program is a complete program Construction or Strengthening  the school is important and attractive
Lesson learned from SESP SESP provided a platform to produce/promote appropriate technology Good practice for technology transfer/replication Management should cover people from all level Transparency plays vital role in community based programs
Lesson learned from SESP More attractive outcome are Construction or retrofitting the school Training the masons Raising awareness of villagers Teaching the children, teachers and parents what to do about earthquake preparedness All extras come for a relative small increase in the cost of earthquake resistant construction or retrofitting
SESP- an Ongoing Endeavor of NSET Very Limited (42 Schools in 14 Districts Only)  Let’s Implement in All Schools Thanks!
