The main difference between the standard IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and the natural cycle IVF is
fertility drugs. Without the use of fertility medications to stimulate the ovary to produce
multiple eggs is known as natural IVF cycle.

Patients in natural cycle IVF are monitored with ultrasound and blood work to track her
menstrual cycle very carefully. In this approach, without the use of fertility medications and
only relies on the spontaneous development of single follicle. To remove the egg from the
single follicle is done by the egg retrieval procedure and if it is successful, then similarly as in
standard IVF, egg is fertilized in the laboratory with male partner’s sperm. In case, dividing
embryo is produced, then again it is transferred into the woman uterus.
In standard IVF cycle, woman needs to take fertility drugs to stimulate the production of eggs
and to ripen them however, in most of the natural IVF cycle hCG (Human Chorionic
Gonadotropin) is sufficient to trigger the release of the eggs. Natural IVF cycle is an exciting
alternative option of conventional IVF cycle which attracts patients because of its various
benefits such as:
Remove the risk of ovarian stimulation like OHSS (Ovarian Hyper stimulation Syndrome),
mood changes, bloating etc.

No use of fertility medications or drugs

Above are some of the advantages of the natural IVF cycle and in some cases there is less
monitoring with blood tests and ultrasounds, depends on the individual. Natural IVF cycle is
somehow beneficial for those women who considered poor responders, even when ovarian
stimulation has repetitively failed to produce multiple eggs. Technique also provides
opportunity to those couples in which male fertility is a prime factor of infertility with the ICSI
procedure and avoids the multiple pregnancies.

2. If we talk about the success rate of this approach, it has low as compared to standard IVF cycle
and before egg collection, also there is a small risk of spontaneous ovulation. But due to its
various benefits, several experts recommend this technique to their patients in case they
discovered that hormone injections could control the timing of ovulation and could also
stimulate the ovaries to produce numerous eggs per cycle. Additionally the success with natural
IVF cycle is highly depends on the age of the women.
