liver is the body’s largest solid organ,

up of ‘hepatocytes’ -
or liver cells - which
remove toxins from the blood and
absorb nutrients. Other liver functions
include processing digested food
from the intestine; fighting infections;
controlling the amounts of fats, glucose
and amino acids that are in the blood;
cleaning the blood of particles and
infections; and manufacturing bile.
The liver is also responsible for
neutralizing and breaking down all
drugs and toxins that enter the body,
as well as storing vitamins, chemicals
and iron. The liver is essential for
turning food into energy, making and
regulating numerous hormones, and
making the enzymes and proteins that
are essential for most of the chemical
reactions that occur in the body.
