§ I believe strongly that the body and the mind are connected; I also believe
that they are connected in just that order: first the body, then the mind.
Don’t get me wrong, your mind is the magical seat of all imagination,
stimulation and creation that goes on in your life – but without the body
there would be nothing to imagine, stimulate or create. So in this section
we start out with how the smile affects your entire body; and boy, does it
ever!
§ Sometimes getting your teeth bonded can mean the difference between a
D-List and an A-List Smile; other times it means the difference between
insecurity and confidence. Sherene Hudson grew up in Jamaica, Queens.
Today, she’s a Contract Coordinator in the Business & Legal Affairs
department at a Media Entertainment Company. Growing up, Sherene
smiled a lot but, she admits, “I was always aware of the spaces in my
teeth.”

§ Like most children unhappy with their smiles, Sherene swallowed
her feelings and put on a brave face for the outside world. “I
remember many photos of myself smiling,” she says before
confessing, “but I was smiling for the cameras.”
§ Many of my patients don’t become insecure about their smiles
until early- to late-adolescence. For Sherene, things started much
earlier. “My siblings used to tease me on a regular basis when I
smiled in front of them; they were the first ones to make me a little
insecure about my smile.” How early did her insecurities start?
“My being self-conscious started as a child around the age of 8
years old.”

§ Later in life Sherene put behind her the voices of her family critics
and, instead, became her own harshest critic. “As a young adult,”
she admits, “I was very much aware of the spaces in my teeth, but
it didn’t bother me as much; people would always tell me that I
had a nice smile, but I wasn’t satisfied with it.”
§ It was then that she began thinking seriously about getting an A-
List Smile. “I thought about a nicer smile from the age of 16 to an
adult,” she says. “I always pay attention to teeth and smiles, and
when I would see people who had nice smiles, it really made a
difference on how their face looked to me. I just feel like a nice
smile exudes confidence.”

§ What was the biggest part of Sherene’s decision to change her smile? “I
just wanted a beautiful smile,” she says. “Closing the spaces in my teeth
has been on my dental ‘wish list’ for over two years. I made a promise to
myself that I would be improving my smile at the beginning of the year.”
§ Once I had bonded Sherene’s teeth, she said, “The most surprising part
was the fact that my smile and face was changed in a matter of hours.
After my bonding procedure, I was so happy; I just couldn’t stop smiling
when I got home.”
§ Today Sherene is more than satisfied with her A-List Smile. “My teeth
look and feel great,” she told me recently. “It doesn’t even feel like I had
anything done. My teeth just look great!”

§ Sherene said she never feel insecure about her smile now that she’s
had bonding to remove the spaces in her teeth. “My new teeth
have given me more confidence in myself as well as my smile,” she
says. “I just want to talk and smile all day. By making these
improvements, I feel like I’m putting me first by making my
outside become as beautiful as I am on the inside.”
§ Not surprisingly, Sherene has some parting words for anyone
considering who isn’t happy with their smile: “I tell all of my
friends that they have options and to go see Dr. Austin.”
