1. SKIN AND HERBAL COSMETICS. The concept of shringar /araaish (beautification) has been an integral part of Indian civilization. The philosophy of usage of cosmetics was directed not only towards developing a pleasant and acceptable personality but for achieving happiness in life. It appears that usage of modern cosmetics was practiced by ancient people with the help of natural sources available.
2. Skin is the mirror of one’s individual health; skin is the clue to one's humoural constitution. Medically skin is a sensory organ that responds to reflexes and is a protective system that shields the entire living body. Apart from perceiving sensations such as cold, warm, heavy, light, rough, smooth, etc. skin is also an excretory agent for sweat. The senses of touch, pain, temperature, pressure are felt by it. The skin is subject to various problems, blemishes, infections, growths etc due to internal and external causes. If the skin is not cared properly and neglected it suffers from premature aging, various skin disorders, becomes dull and blemished
5. Reflects the inner state of health by its texture, tone and appearance.Great attention and care is required for maintaining the quality of the skin
6. The first step in the holistic Unani approach to skin care is finding out your humoural skin type: Saudawiskin (melancholic) is in generally dry, thin, delicate and cool to the touch, easily gets dehydrated, and is very vulnerable to the influence of dry windy weather, skin may age faster, and tends to be dry, rough, flaky and hyper pigmentation disorders when out of balance. Safrawi skin (bilious) type tends to be fair, sensitive, soft, warm, and of medium thickness, less tolerance to hot food, less tolerance to fieriness in temperament, safrawi skin types tend to be more prone to freckles and moles than the other skin types. When out of balance, safrawi skin can flare up in rashes, rosacea, hyper pigmentation disorders, acne or sunspots. Balghami skin (phelgmatic) tends to have all the qualities of water and earth -- it can be oily, thick, pale, soft, cool and more tolerant of the sun. Balghami skin tends to age slower and form less wrinkles than the other two types. Balghami skin types may struggle with dull complexion, enlarged pores, excessive oil, blackheads, and pimples, moist types of eczema, vitiligo, and leucoderma and water retention. Damawiskin (sanguine) is hot and moist, reddish complexion when out of balance the damawi skin can flare up skin rashes, eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, acne
7. "Combination" skin can be Saudawi/ safrawi, skin that is both dry and sensitive, Balghami / safrawi -skin is oily and sensitive, and Balghami / Saudawi- skin that is generally dry with some oily zones. The Unani approach to caring for combination skin takes into account environmental and seasonal factors For example, a person with Saudawi/Safrawi skin would follow the recommendations for safra skin in summer and saudaskin in winter. The Balghami/Safrawi type would follow safrawi recommendations in summer and balghami recommendations in winter. The Saudawi/Balghami type would be best served by generally following saudawiguidelines, with extra cleansing of the oily zones.
8. .Effect of stress on skin: There are three types of stress, and all three impact the skin in different ways. Mental stress starts a chain reaction that ends in a drying out the moisture in the skin. Thinning, dryness and the shrinking of the Urooq e shariya (microchannels) that carry nutritive fluid to the skin result in wrinkles and stress lines. Emotional stress also affects the skin-just notice how anger or embarrassment can turn your face red. This shows the connection between emotions and the skin. If emotional stress becomes chronic, the result is acne, sun sensitivity, and other Safrawi-based problems.Physical stress: Exercising too much, working too much, or straining the body over a period of time causes physical stress. This causes the drying out of skin moisture and rough, aged skin. To counteract mental stress, maintain a Saudawi -pacifying diet and daily routine. To bring emotional stress into balance, follow a Safrawi -pacifying diet and routine. For physical stress, try to limit exercise or work to fifty percent of your physical stamina.
