2. KAYAKALPA THERAPY
Kayakalpam in Siddha is based on Pancha bhootha
panchikarnam. Human body is made of 5 elements and 3
humours( Vatham, Pitham and Kapham). These forces or
humours are in a balanced ratio in our body say 1:1/2:1/4
as Vatha: Pitha: Kapha. Sometimes due to some
pathological reason or seasonal variation this equilibrium
or balanced ratio may change and

• hence diseases may occur. A Siddha Physician
who is well versed in Naadi diagnosis can
detect this change and prescribe internal and
external medicines accordingly.
5. Virechana
Virechana is the administration of purgative substances for
the cleansing of pitta through the lower pathways. Give
virechana 3 days after vamana. If vamana is not indicated
for a particular individual, then give virechana. In either
case, it is necessary to first do 3 days of internal oleation,
and preferably both snehana (oleation) and svedana
(sweating), which are purva karma. Virechana cleanses
blood toxins, the sweat glands, kidneys, stomach, small
intestine, colon, liver, spleen, and rakta vaha srotas.
6. Uttara Vasti Treatment
• It is called douche in simple terms. It is done
after the completion of menstrual cycle when
the female genital tract is receptive to the
administration of medicated formulation. It is
indicated in uterine disorders, Bladder
disorders, dysmenorrhoea, menorrhagia,
primary infertility .
7. Uttara Vasti Treatment Continued
• 3- 5 ml of medicated unctuous formulation
can be administered into the uterine cavity by
means of a 5 cc syringe guided with a cusco
speculum.
• It is done for a period of 7 days with gradual
increase of dose of the medicine. In men it is
done in urethral disorders and known as
Urethral douche.
8. Swedana Therapy
• Swedana Therapy is a dry or wet method of sweating
is called swedana.
• It may be full body steam therapy.Special herb decided
on the basis of nature and intensity of doshas are fused
into the steam and together the heat and herbs dilate
the channels allowing the stored ama (toxins) to move
back into the digestive system.
• In swedana the body is made to perspire to loosen and
excrete the toxins.by this method as next is to remove
toxins from the body through panchakarma(sodhana
therapy).

aggravated kapha dosha, which dislodges the toxins
mainly from the respiratory and gastrointestinal tract.
This therapy is done for preventive & curative purposes

influence in the aggravation of doshas, ex: Kapha in
Hemant (spring season), Pitta in Sharada (winter)
season and Vata in Greeshma (summers) season.
Hence one can adopt Vaman therapy in spring i.e.
Hemant season as a preventive therapy in order to
prevent disorders related to kapha.
15. Purpose of Vamana Treatment:
• Vamana treatment is targeted to expel increased Kapha
Dosha out of the body. When Kapha dosha increases, it
causes certain types of diseases such as cold, cough
etc.If the extent of Kapha increase is less, then some
oral medicines can be given to suppress it. But if it has
increased to a large extent and if it has moved from its
natural place to other places, then it needs to be
expelled out of the body. By expelling it out, the
disease gets cured, often completely
