8. THE SURGICAL
PROCEDURE

9. Removal of Offending Teeth
• Before starting with implant procedure,
all decayed and damaged teeth are
extracted from the surgical site, under
the influence of local anesthesia.
• Can be done on the same day of implant

10. Bone Grafting or Augmentation
• In case of insufficient or weak bone
surrounding the desired area.
• Bone grafting and/or Sinus Grafting is
done to acquire a firm base for implant
placement.
• Usually bone healing occurs within 3-12
months after grafting.

11. First Surgery
• A small incision is placed in
gingiva covering the tooth
socket, under the influence of
local anaesthesia.
• A metal post is inserted deep into
alveolar bone after drilling.
• Flap is sutured back.

12. Healing
• After implant placement,
the site is allowed to heal
for 2 to 6 months.
• During this period, the
bone fuses with implant
through a process known
as “Osseo integration”,
which is examined using
radiographs.

13. Second Surgery
• After complete healing, an
incision is given, to attach an
abutment atop the metal post
after removal of cover screw.
• Flap is again sutured back
encircling the abutments.

14. Prosthetic Restoration
• Patient recalled after few weeks once the
healing is completed.
• After confirming with radiographs, if abutment
is properly connected to implant, impressions
are taken and models of jaws are made.
• Finally, a custom-fit crown is placed on the top
of it, completing full implant architecture in next
few days.
