What did I see?
• Jack Sparrow and his crew were determined
• It only takes a few people to start the rocking
• Things that were tied down for safety needed to be free to move
• After a few iterations, the rest of the folks to “got it”
• Tying yourself to the mast *seemed* like a reasonable thing to do
• While the sun sets, it is simultaneously rising

Who is DTL
• Responsible for engineering Symantec’s Cloud
– Analytics – large scale batch and stream processing
– Platform Services – point services - eg Magneto DB, *aaS
– Platform as a Service – accelerate code->cloud
– Infrastructure as a Service – software defined infrastructure ( indistinguishable from magic )
• My journey started in communications
– All Optical Networks, Signal Detection in Wireless channel, Wireless Infrastructure
– Security: Server (Qiave), Network (Raptor), AntiSpam (Brightmail), DLP (Vontu)
– Symantec Cloud Platform Engineering

• Vintage software = geriatric pets
• Elusive: Converged Infrastructure, Operations -> Unified Security Offerings
• Formula 1 teams don’t rent their cars, they build them
