2. Consumer Products
Consumer products have greatly had an impact on the film and
television industry's as the consumer products like camera’s and
editing software have made it easier for people to make their own
content of film and television. Whether its for the internet, film and
TV the audience can now create their own content for these media
texts. Sites such as YouTube allow you to upload your own videos
and content to the internet if you have one of these consumer
products which are very easy to come buy as with the coming of
multi platform devices such as phones. These now come with a
camera and a video camera and apps that allow you to upload your
content with the touch of the screen.
3. Satellite/Cable
Satellite- As most of the TV’s in Britain are now satellite
company's like Sky and BT have made many more channels
available to the general public. Satellite TV is used by having a
Satellite dish to pick up channels. This can be a problem as the
dish can break easily however with cable TV this isn’t likely to
happen as there is no satellite dish and only an antenna.
Cable- Instead of a satellite dish with cable TV you only need to
plug your TV with a coaxial cable to an antenna on your roof. The
cable projects radio waves through the antenna that picks the
radio signals. With cable TV you don’t have as many channels as
you would with satellite however this method of accessing TV is a
lot cheaper to get.
4. Analogue/ Digital
Analogue- is the type of signals that allow us to watch analogue
television. When a viewer wants to watch a programme the
television must be tuned to the right frequency and amplitude.
Mostly in the world of today this method is considered very
outdated technology with the coming of digital TV were you can
instantly gain access to channels. With all this new technology
being discovered analogue TV has reduced dramatically and the
government is now making sure people have converted to digital
now.
Digital- with digital TV an antenna picks up signals then transmits
them through your TV. You are usually limited to channels
however there is less interference in the sound and picture unlike
the slightest in tuning of an analogue TV. Also these types of TV’s
effect the way we watch TV as with digital TV we can just press a
button to tune to a channel however with analogue it can take
very long to get the right signal.
5. Internet
Internet- The internet is used a lot through the industry of media
and film. The internet allows anyone to connect to a global
computer network of billion of devices. Many people now use the
internet for both legal and illegal purposes to watch films and TV.
People can watch films legally using services like Netflix and Blink
box now. However with this becoming ever more popular normal
DVD stores have closed down as they can’t compete with the
competition e.g. Blockbuster. Also the illegal download of films
and TV show episodes has also contributed to these stores
closure with torrent downloads through illegal sites e.g. Pirate
Bay. When someone downloads a torrent this is when a computer
receives files from a number of different devices. When this is a
film these files are illegal as your not paying for the film or TV
episode.
6. Interactive
Interactive- Interactivity has increased greatly in media. We now
have the access to interact with things we couldn’t e.g. make
contact with celebrity's via twitter, give are views on content e.g.
YouTube commenting and like/dislike system. As a consumer of
all this media content we are given many ways to manipulate it.
One way in which we can do this is by changing the quality
resolution. With YouTube videos we can change the amount of
pixels we see through the video player. We can go up to 1080p
mostly however with some videos we are even able to go beyond
this. In some video’s 4k is given as an option which is 3840 by
2160 pixels.
7. High Definition/3D
HD- is the meaning of an increased resolution of video that
makes us see more detail of video. With this new technology
many people now have HD TVs in there homes. Originally if a
video had less than 405 lines it wouldn’t be considered high
definition but with this advancement of this technology the
common amount of lines on a HD TV is 720 lines. This has led to
many spectacular experiences in film and TV.
3D- is the motion picture when two types of film are shot from
different perspectives. The 3D glasses are then used with a
polarizing filters to create illusion of film outside its screen. With
3D and HD many feature films have incorporated both of these to
create more profit. When Avatar was first in the cinema 3D was
used and has become the highest grossing film ever. Also
remakes have been made in 3D and HD as they weren’t as
advanced as films are now e.g. The Lion King, Beauty And The
Beast.
8. Pay Per View/On-demand Viewing
Pay per view- is a service that lets you watch TV shows and Films
while they are being viewed at the same time of anyone else who
is watching the event. This now allows audiences to watch
whatever they want whenever they want. Sites such as Blink box
and Prime Instant Video by Amazon offers this service to people
who want to watch the latest blockbuster films. However once
you have watched your film or TV show you can’t watch it again
unless you pay again.
On demand- is when audiences can watch video and audio
whenever they want. Sky Store has many movies ready for
audiences to watch for a price. This excludes the inconvenience of
waiting or missing the initial broadcast time of Film and TV
programmes. Also when these are watched they usually don’t
include adverts which allows audience’s to avoid the annoyance
9. Streaming Content/Digital
Recorders
Streaming Content- is when you are constantly watching content
through a provider of the content. These are usually done
through media players to stream different kinds of content e.g.
Film and TV. Love Film and Netflix have many TV shows and Films
for anyone to access. However this can have its repercussions if
your connection to the provider fails or isn’t a strong link. This is
known as buffering
Digital Recorders- is when instead of constantly being fed the
data the content is being saved for you to watch later. Sky allows
you to record any film or TV programme whenever the viewer
wants. When these features were introduced to viewers for the
first time you were required to upgrade your box to be able to do
this. This was very expensive to do and you must pay a monthly
cost.
