2. What is Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is- The name of the Wireless Networks we use that make our lives mobile. Some also know this to stand for Wireless Fidelity (all though this is not true)
3. Where did it begin? The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in 1985 was inspired by Michael Marcus to create the first wireless wave bands.
4. They used radio frequencies already associated with things like microwaves that use radio signals for other than communication.
5. In the next few years… In 1988 Victor Hayes created a revised standard under the guidance of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Thus creating Ethernet, the basis of wi-fi has begun.
6. What year did the public begin using wi-fi? 1997 Apple released one of the first Wi-fi enabled computers that was affordable to the public. Approximately $100
7. How does it work? It all starts at your internet modem. Cable or DSL
8. Then an Ethernet cable runs to a wireless router, then to a computer.
9. Finally, any device able to receive and run off a wireless internet signal can sun from the wireless router.

13. Bluetooth These devices use a small wi-fi signal to control devices like cell phones, PDA’s, and they can bring the internet to a laptop.
14. What do we use it for? Wi-Fi brings us the internet, phone calls, and other ways to receive information without being plugged into a landline.
15. Where can we access it? Different places offer wireless “hot spots” with free internet access via wi-fi.
16. What can we look for in the future? The Wi-Fi Alliance is creating a device set to be released mid-September 2010. This device will take the need for a wireless router out of our networks.
