2. Joshua 1 1 Now after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, 2 Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. It's been over 40 years since God spoke to Moses at the burning bush. It's been over 400 years since He promised Jacob to bring his family back home.
3. God always keeps His Word . Let's be content with the lives God has given us. Do all that He wants us to do. Be all that God wants us to be. Enjoy His Provision.
4. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. God gave them title to the land, But they had to possess it! Jesus provided salvation for all men. We have to accept His free gift. He came that we might have abundant life . We have to live it His Way to receive the blessing.
5. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. A great land of many blessings.
6. The Israelites never possessed but a small portion of all that God had given them. Because they never moved into all the land. They got distracted by the people, the customs, the women, and the gods of the land. Canaan was a physical, geographical place that God had given to His people. But He has prepared a spiritual Canaan , a Promised Land for us -- the church.
7. It is a relationship with Almighty God in which we are blessed with His Presence ; We are filled with His Spirit; He is our Savior and Lord, Healer, Provider, Protector, Comforter, and Friend. We have to walk with God in this Spiritual Land. We possess it by faith.
8. There are enemies in this land. Ephesians 6 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the Power of His Might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil . 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places .
9. Anything that draws us away from the Path that God has laid out for us.
11. In the Power of God we can march victorious over all the tricks of devils. We can be changed from the inside out. Our desires, hopes, dreams, and wishes will change.
12. 5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. God promised Joshua victory over every enemy. He promised never to leave him alone.
13. 7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. It does take courage and strength to obey God in all things. Prosper = to have intelligence and skill, and to be successful in every venture.
14. The moral courage to follow God, submitting ourselves to His Will, walking in the Authority of His Word and the Power of His Spirit.
15. 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. What do you meditate in?
16. God has made us these same Promises! Hebrews 13 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. We always have God's Presence ; How can we be less than content? How can we be afraid ?
17. God has given us His Word that we may live lives filled with blessing . He warns us against the dangers. He teaches us to do those things that bring blessing. Hebrews 6 12 That ye be not slothful (lazy) , but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. No time limit on patience
