Fuengirola Lions thump Costa del Sol
Crusaders by 129 runs
Yet another 50 for Nadeem Malik, three wickets apiece for Asim Rizwan, Waqas Ahmed and
James Riley
By Egan Steven Dantis
CRUSADERS suffered yet an-
other defeat against Fuengi-
rola Lions by 129 runs after
they failed to chase 227
against a formidable attack.
Crusaders were in tatters
at 54 for 5 as the batsmen
were back in the pavilion.
Nasir Dar 25 and James Riley
21 were the only batsmen who
crossed 20s and no other
batsmen resisted against
Fuengirola’s bowlers. Jesper
Hansen is always a
prize wicket for any
bowler, as he was
unsettled by the new
Srilankan pace
bowler Shantan who
took a brilliant
catch of his own
bowling diving for-
ward to dismiss him
cheaply. Abraham
Syam was the next
top scorer with 18
runs.
Waqas Ahmed
made most of the
damage early in the
innings by claiming
3-18 and captain
Asim Rizwan bowled
a brilliant over top-
pling three Cru-
saders batsmen in one over to
end the innings on 98 of 26
overs. Captain Asim Rizwan's
brilliant over fetched him 3
wickets for 9 runs.
Earlier in the day Fuengi-
rola Lions elected to bat first
after winning the toss and
soon put up 43 runs partner-
ship for the first wicket,
Afzal Shah 30 and Ehtisham
khan 37 dominated crusaders
attack. Young sensation
Jaime Riley bowled bril-
liantly first up by slowing
down the run scoring. Once
the openers were dismissed
crusaders came back with
some quick wickets in the
middle. James Riley the mys-
tery spinner’s variations
were difficult to pick. James
Riley took 3-41 in his come-
back match and Nasir Dar
took 2-35 to bring back the
Crusaders. But as always the
ever reliable batsman Na-
deem Malik started cau-
tiously and once he was set
he punished Crusaders
bowlers and scored his 16th
50 in his 20th match of the
season. Nothing could dis-
mantle him as he piled on
runs as he remained un-
beaten on 85. Fuengirola
Lions scored 227-7 off 35
overs.
Nadeem Malik was ad-
judged Man of the Match for
his unbeaten 85.
