Effective Presentation for Teaching and Learning
Why do we need effective presentation?
• Effective presentation skills enhance teaching and learning at institutions.
• It is important for instructors to have clear, engaging, and memorable
presentations for their audience to take away the message.
• Media skills is one of the way contribute to effective presentations.
Using Media in a Presentation
How media contribute to effective presentations?
 Any media used by presenter should be there to help the presenter.
 Media are merely visuals that back what you, the presenter, are saying.
 Presentation software allows you to include text, audio, images, animations
and videos.
Guy Kawasaki Rule for ideal presentation
 10 slides – Challenges people to put their ideas into fewer slides.
 20 minutes – People only truly focus on a topic for 20 minutes before they
need a break. Presenters should say what they want to say immediately.
 30-size font – The text has to be visible to the entire audience and slides
should not be all text.
MULTIMEDIA
Multimedia refers to content that uses a combination of
different content forms such as combination of text, audio, still
images, animation, video., or interactivity
Multimedia Presentation
 Multimedia presentations is the presentation may be viewed by person
on stage, projected, transmitted, or played locally with a media player.
 Multimedia presentations can be live or recorded.
- A recorded presentation may allow interactivity via a navigation system.
- A live multimedia presentation may allow interactivity via an interaction
with the presenter or performer.
 Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool for creating effective multimedia
presentation.
Creative Multimedia Presentation
 Implementing some innovative multimedia presentation ideas can further
make your presentation more entertaining.
 Using an interactive multimedia presentation ensures that people remember
your messages.
 There is a lots of software for creative multimedia presentation such as
present.me ,VCASMO, Prezi, Visme, Poll Everywhere and TurningPoints 5.

with standard web technology. And because it works instantly at incredibly
affordable rates, you can let your creativity run wild.
How it works?
1. Ask your audience a question with the Poll Everywhere app
2. Audience answers in real time using mobile phones, Twitter, or web browsers
3. See your response live on the web or in a PowerPoint presentation
How to use Poll Everywhere
The basics of getting started include:
 creating your first poll
 presenting the live results
 customizing the look and feel of your poll
 You can also publish the results via email, Twitter, or a website.
1. Creating a poll
Step 1. To create your first poll, click on the Create Poll button.
 If you are signed in, you can find the Create Poll button from your My Polls page.
 If you have not signed in, you can find the Create Poll button on the Poll
Everywhere homepage.
Step 2. Type in your question
Step 3. Select the type of poll. Poll Everywhere offers several different poll types
including multiple choice, open-ended response, and clickable image polls.
 Example, in open-ended polls, select how you would like your audience’s
responses to be visualized.
Step 4. Click on the Create button to create the poll.
2. Accepting responses
Unlocking your poll
o When you create a poll, it unlocks automatically so you are ready to receive
responses.
o If your poll is locked, you can easily unlock it. Just go to your My Polls page,
select the poll you want to unlock, and click the Unlock button at the top of the
window.
Activating your poll
 If you would like the audience to be able to respond on your PollEv.com
presenter page (i.e. PollEv.com/your-username), or to respond via text
message or Twitter, you will need to activate the poll.
 This publishes the poll on your PollEv.com presenter page.
 To activate your poll from the My Polls page, click on the Activate icon, located
to the right of the poll.
Ending your poll
 To stop accepting responses, click the Lock icon to the right of the poll.
 If you lock a poll while it is still activated, participants can see the poll on your
PollEv.com presenter page, but are unable to respond.
 To remove the poll from your PollEv.com presenter page, simply click the
Activate icon once more to deactivate.
Turning Point
