(or simply mention them), while staying in the
open forum
– Ekelly7: On my way to @ArtisanTalent for a social
media presentation
9. The Basics
• DM (Direct Messages): Twitter’s version of an
email; use these when you want to talk to
someone directly, but don’t feel it needs to be
open to the entire Twitterverse
• Hash Tags (#hashtags): Placing a “#” symbol
in front of a word or phrase (with no spaces)
makes it searchable as a topic on twitter
– When posting a job listing, you can end them with
“#Jobs”
10. The Basics
• RT (Re-Tweeting): RT-ing simply means
reposting someone else’s tweets to share
with your followers.
• 2 Ways to RT:
– Old School: manually typed
– New School: “retweet” button
11. The Basics
• RT (Re-Tweet)
Manually Typed
Tweet comes from you; Allows for comments
Retweet Button
Tweet comes from original author; No need to condense
12. Twitter & New
Business
• Tips for using Twitter to find new business
opportunities
– Follow competitors
– Follow current clients
– Make announcements of successful job
placements (using @replies and #tags)
• The key to social media opportunities lies not
in your network, but your network’s network
– See who people are following, and follow suit
13. Who Do I Follow?
• Use Twitter search to find friends,
clients, past colleagues, Talent, and
other business associates
• Announce on Facebook & LinkedIn that
you’re active on Twitter (be sure to
include your handle!)
14. Linking Facebook
& Twitter
• While logged into your Artisan
Facebook profile, search “selective
tweets” in the search bar
• Download the Selective Tweets
application, and type in your Twitter
handle when given the option
15. Linking Facebook
& Twitter
• This app lets you choose which tweets
appear on your Facebook profile
– Type “#fb” at the end of your tweet
• Added bonus: your Facebook posts will
automatically post a link that says
“Follow me on Twitter” and displays
your handle
16. Other Tips &
Resources
• Bit.ly, TinyURL, etc
– URL shorteners let you post links in
Tweets without taking up excessive space
• Post regularly, but make it meaningful
• Don’t be afraid to get personal
– People like to know there is an actual
person handling the account
