  3. 3. Leadership is a Behavior <ul><li>Effectiveness: Focusing the organization’s energy in a particular direction. </li></ul><ul><li>Efficiency: Focusing on the way things are done I.E. systems and procedures. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Role of the leader <ul><li>To be Responsive to needs of his/her people by: </li></ul><ul><li>Setting clear goals </li></ul><ul><li>Providing timely Directions and Support </li></ul><ul><li>Providing positive Feedback . </li></ul>
  5. 5. Leadership styles <ul><li>Three styles are present: </li></ul><ul><li>Authoritarian </li></ul><ul><li>Participative </li></ul><ul><li>Laissez faire. </li></ul><ul><li>Any successful leader should use the three styles and always according to the situation. </li></ul>

Leaders power <ul><li>There are two sources of power: </li></ul><ul><li>Position power: it comes from the position you have in your organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Personal power: Influence of Leader to change follower’s behavior due to his personal relationship. </li></ul><ul><li>Any successful leader should use both powers. </li></ul>

Management VS Leadership <ul><li>Leadership role </li></ul><ul><li>Doing the right thing </li></ul><ul><li>Setting directions: vision and strategy </li></ul><ul><li>Communicating vision and strategy so that people understand and accept them. </li></ul><ul><li>Motivating and inspiring people: so that they can make the vision a reality despite obstacles. </li></ul><ul><li>Produces significant change. </li></ul><ul><li>Management role </li></ul><ul><li>Doing things right </li></ul><ul><li>Planning and budgeting </li></ul><ul><li>Organizing and staffing and delegating. </li></ul><ul><li>Controlling and problem solving: monitoring results against plan, spotting deviation planning and organizing solution. </li></ul><ul><li>Creates predictability and order. </li></ul>

Assessing your Leadership potential <ul><li>Evaluate how well you measure up as a prospective leader by responding to the following statements. </li></ul><ul><li>You may answer on of the following options: 1- never, 2- occasionally, 3- frequently, 4- always. </li></ul><ul><li>If you score: </li></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>12-24: you are potentially competent. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>25-36: you have the makings of a good leader, some areas still need to be improved. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><ul><li>37-48: your leadership is high, but do not become complacent. Strive to realize it. </li></ul></ul></ul></ul></ul>
