PROFILE
THE FIRST ROTARY CLUB WAS FORMED BY ATTORNEY PAUL P. HARRIS IN DOWNTOWN
CHICAGO, USA, ON 23RD FEBRUARY 1905.
THE NAME ROTARY WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE THE FIRST MEMBERS MET BY ROTATING WEEKLY
IN EACH OTHERS’ OFFICES. BUT AFTER A YEAR, IT WAS SO LARGE THAT THEY ADOPTED ONE
COMMON MEETING PLACE.
1ST INTERNAIONAL CLUB WAS ROTARY CLUB OF WINNIPEG, CANADA IN 1910. ROTARY CLUB
OF IRELAND IN 1911 WAS THE 1ST OUTSIDE AMERICA.
ROTARY WAS IN RELATION WITH U.N & THE FIRST U.N CHARTER HAD 50 ROTARIANS AS
DELEGATES.
IN 1985, ROTARY LAUNCHED A Polio-Plus PROGRAM TO IMMUNISE ALL WORLD’S CHILDREN.
BY 2011, NEARLY 2billion CHILDREN HAD BEEN IMMUNISED.
AFRICA HAS OVER 50,000 ROTARIANS.

EACH ROTARACT CLUB IS SPONSORED BY A ROTARY CLUB e.g ROTARACT CLUB OF KCMC IS
SPONSORED BY THE ROTARY CLUB OF MOSHI.
THE SPONSORING ROTARY CLUB IS A “MOTHER CLUB” OF THE ROTARACT CLUB IT SPONSORS
ROTARIANS; THEREFORE, MENTOR YOUNG MEN & WOMEN INTERESTED IN PROVIDING
SERVICE TO THEIR OWN COMMUNITY & THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY.
ROTARACT
Rotaract was founded in 1968 by CHARLOTTE NORTH
ROTARY CLUB, located in CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.
Rotaract clubs are either community or institution based,
and they are sponsored by a local Rotary club.
This makes them true "partners in service" and key
members of the family of Rotary.
"ROTARACT" stands for "ROTARY IN ACTION".

ROTARY YOUTH ECHANGE :
A student exchange program for students in secondary education.
AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS:
Ended in 2013, over 38,000 men & women from 100 countries have studied abroad under this
program.
ROTARY FELLOWSHIPS:
Paid by the Rotary foundation. Launched in honor of Paul Harris in 1947, specialize in providing
graduate fellowships around the world, usually in countries other than their own in order to
provide international exposure and experience to the recipient.
ROTARY PEACE AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION PROGRAM:
This provides funds for two years of graduate study in one of eight universities around the
world. Rotary is naming about 75 of these scholars each year. The applications for these
scholarships are found online but each application must be endorsed by a local Rotary Club.
EXCHANGES & SCHOLARSHIPS
Starting in 2002, THE ROTARY FOUNDATION partnered with eight universities around
the world to create the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict
resolution. The universities included International Christian
University (Japan), University of Queensland (Australia), University of Bradford (UK),
et.c
Up to 100 Rotary Peace Fellows are selected annually to earn either a professional
development certificate in peace and conflict studies or a master's degree in a range
of disciplines related to peace and security. Each Rotary Peace Center offers a
unique curriculum and field-based learning opportunities that examine peace and
conflict theory through a variety of different frameworks. The first class graduated in
2004.
ROTARY PEACE CENTERS
Rotary clubs worldwide place a focus on increasing literacy.
Such importance has been placed on literacy that Rotary International
has created a “Rotary Literacy Month” that takes place during the
month of March.
Rotary clubs also aim to conduct many literacy events during the week
of September 8, which is International Literacy Day.
Some Rotary clubs raise funds for schools and other literacy
organizations.

THE MOTHER CLUB IS “ROTARY CLUB OF MOSHI.”
CURRENTLY HAS OVER 48 MEMBERS.
FELLOWSHIPS ARE AT NENEU HOTEL, 4PM EVERY
SATURDAY.
