The media formats that relate to what I have chosen to use in my
final major project are graphic design and photography. I have
decided to create a magazine, meaning that I will use these media
formats to ensure that my final piece looks professional and features
the majority of the typical codes and conventions of a magazine in
this particular genre. This will be anchored down by it appealing to
the magazine main target audience. Photography will be used
throughout the content of my magazine as the photo on the front
cover is what first attracts a reader to the magazine. I will be using
graphic design as I will want to make sure that the name of my
magazine is put in the right place, whether that’s under or over the
photography on the front page as well as making sure that content of
the magazine is placed in the correct place ensure that it keeps in fit
with the genre of magazine.
The magazine I will create will belong to the popular culture and
fashion genre. I have decided to go with the genre after I got ideas
and influences from magazines such as vanity fair that also belong to
this genre. The content of this magazine will feature a front cover,
(which will feature photography relating to the magazine article)
contents pages and a main two page magazine article about a chosen
celebrity or icon. The narrative of this magazine will be to follow the
life and style of a particular celebrity or icon throughout the
magazine itself for example the main two pages magazine article may
be an interview or a biography style piece of writing about them
which can then be followed with pages on the style of clothing this
particular person wears and how to recreate their look for yourself.
The target audience for my magazine will be teenage girls and young
adult women. I have chosen to make this my target audience as I feel
that I will be able to get my magazine to appeal to this particular
group as I have looked and researched both the typical codes and
conventions of other magazines that appeal to this group as well as
the needs that this particular audience want to receive from the
magazines that they chose to read.
The needs of my chosen target audience are that I will feature
someone in the magazine who is known for being popular with this
particular target audience. The reason I will feature someone like this
in my magazine is because the target audience will want to aspire to
be like this person, whether its looks, meaning that they are likely to
buy similar clothes to the ones the celebrity wears or even wear their
makeup and hair the same. They may also want to aspire to them
career wise as well for example the front cover will feature some text
on how they’ve made it to where they are now in their career like
modelling, acting or presenting. This will appeal to the target
audience and their needs as they will buy the magazine and read the
article to see how they’re idol made their career. Another one of my

magazine target audiences needs is that they want to keep up with
the latest fashion and will buy the magazine to see what the latest
fashion is, where they can buy it and whether or not their favourite
celebrities are wearing the same type of clothes.

What production
techniques will you
use to realise your
project?
For pre-production I will use the internet to help me find images and
ideas and influences. I will also an ideas generation to help put down
my ideas in words with pictures to help me decide what kind of
magazine and genre I want to create and what the typical codes and
conventions of the magazine will be and help me research to make
sure that I feature material that will meet the needs of my intended
target audience. During production I will use photography and
Microsoft word to help me make sure that what I write in the article
is accurate and fits in with the genre of the magazine. I will also use
other programmes such as publisher to help figure out the layout of
my magazine and the font and size of the text. In my post production
I will use software such as photoshop to help me make sure that my
magazine looks professional and create a layout that I am happy with
and will appeal to my intended target audience.
