This document provides an overview of a student's desk synthesis project to design a new interactive music instrument. The objectives are to open people's minds about music, explore music technology, and create a future music instrument that does not require musical knowledge. The student is motivated by a love of music and experimenting with new sounds. The concept involves human-computer interaction and MIDI samples within a cube-shaped platform. Similar existing instruments like the Kaossilator and Monotron are mentioned. The development of synthesizers and their capabilities is discussed. The conclusion is that the new instrument will allow those without musical skills to express creativity through technology.
2. Abstract Title: Desk Synthesis Background: A synthesizer, or "synth", is an electronic musical instrument that uses filters and tone generators to create waveforms which are then processed to generate sound. Modern synthesizers can closely reproduce the sound of some instruments, but many keyboard players use them for their characteristic sound. They are sometimes referred to as "sound" or "music" synthesizers.
3. Problem Identification: As we all know that, most of the music instruments are expensive and some may not. We may require musical knowledge to play music instrument.
4. Aim and Objectives: This project aims to change the new way of playing music instrument in full of interaction and applying the latest music technology, graphics and computer vision. To open people’s eyes and minds about music and multimedia. To explore more about the world of technology that has developed rapidly. To create the future music instrument. To encourage people to play music instrument even though they have no musical knowledge. To design new music interface that is user friendly.
5. Motivation: I love music so much and even explore more about music instruments and genres that available. Sometimes I will do experimental projects together with my friends about making new music, sounds and applying some cool audio effects. There is one time that when I was watching videos on YouTube there is a gadget that can create effects sound and even people that don’t have any musical knowledge can play the instrument freely. Base on the gadget itself, now I’m trying to do something about it. To change the way on how people play music instruments by adding some human computer interaction and cool audio effects in it.
8. Ideation and Concept: For my project, I would like to design a new music instrument that has human computer interaction in it and to people who doesn’t have any knowledge of music can play it to form a cool nice song. Design Approach: Basically, this project involves more in human computer interaction and music with a bit of programming. By using cube and contains several symbols on it; technically every symbols has their own sounds. Lots of MIDI samples will be use and a box as its platform.
9. Idea Development SoundTable for Ipad: The soundTable is the new amazing application to make music by senses: Look for the best loops and the most suitable effects. Get and move the objects by your fingers. Listen the sounds through headphones or speakers. Easy to use with a clean and simple interface, the soundTable allows you to make musics as never before.
10. Introduction I determined creativity, imagination and the operation of turning new ideas. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of the idea. Theories of creativity have cover in all aspects. Among the most important of all, such as process, product, place and person. Thought the process of trying to explain the mechanisms and techniques for creative thinking. Product will always appear in order to measure the creativity of a person. Place, is considered the most best-in-all, as it will trigger creativity. A creative person considers more in general intellectual habits such as levels of ideation.
11. Technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Designs are likely to get better and more efficient. Aspects of synthesizer will improve in quality. The range of possibilities for sound production and reproduction make the science and engineering a worthwhile investment. Modern electronic keyboards usually have synthesizer components, if only in limited form. Mass-marketed electronic keyboard synthesizers are usually rudimentary compared to professional models, which have greater synthesizing capabilities. However, even these rudimentary keyboards demonstrate just how far technology has evolved over the decades. Many features available on the cheapest keyboard synthesizers are more advanced than the best of yesteryear's technology.
12. What I know about the music lover is someone who loves music. However, we do not know how frequently are someone listening music in a day, month and year. As well as their knowledge of music, whether they considered it as entertainment or a career. Ability of playing musical instruments are also not necessarily the researcher to reveal them, but with the new instrument later, the possibility of half or all of them are able to present the songs in a way, their own creativity.
22. Future Planning Times will be varying along with technology; we are a new generation to follow developments. Future research will be better understanding of a situation depends on whether it will continue to be developed or not.
23. Conclusion Based on the result of interview and observation, people who loves music and don’t know how to play music can get their hands touch onto the synthesizer. They have to let their body and mind to be exposed to the outsiders and others medium such as Internet. Also, this type of art movement is quite not acceptable in Malaysia, but the appreciation is there to support them on continue doing it. Plus, with your own creativeness you can express the ideas to the public. I think that a person should have their own creativity on pursuing in this field and not fully rely on equipment itself; it is only helping you in technical ways. Even though the technology is quite new to our environment, we have got to motivate ourselves and adapt to it.
