5. The sanctuary "is a key to the interpretation of
some of the most important prophecies
pertaining to the present time….It shows our
present whereabouts in the world's history.... It
places the law of God in its true light, draws out
the heart in practical Christianity, points the
inquirer the way to Christ, shows on what lines
the Judgment proceeds, how and when the
work of mercy for this world will close, Christ
appear, redemption be completed, and the
blessings of the everlasting covenant be
secured. Strange (strange indeed) that a subject
occupying so important a position in the divine
economy should have been so long overlooked.
Strange that so few even now are found to
give it in any degree their attention, still less
their study."

8. “…..we should not rest until we become intelligent in regard to
the subject of the sanctuary, which is brought out in the visions
of Daniel and John. This subject sheds great light on our present
position and work, and gives us unmistakable proof that God has
led us in our past experience. It explains our disappointment in
1844, showing us that the sanctuary to be cleansed was not the
earth, as we had supposed, but that Christ then entered into the
most holy apartment of the heavenly sanctuary, and is there

11. Approach of the Study
Main focus will be on the heavenly sanctuary
The earthly sanctuary is important because it was
God's object lesson to illustrate redemption in the
heavenly. But the heavenly itself is the real
sanctuary, "the great original," PP 357, where the
work of redemption is actually in progress…..
We will simultaneously relate the life of a Christian as revealed in the components of
the earthly sanctuary (esp. during the recap), and the ministry of Christ in the
heavenly sanctuary and its importance to us .

On the mercy seat he placed the golden censer, the smoke from
which dimmed the glory of the shechinah. Within the ark, symbol of
God's throne, are the tables of stone on which God engraved the
Ten Commandments, the law by which all shall be judged. The
overshadowing wings of the cherubim "touch each other," EW 252,
and "covered the mercy seat." Ex. 37:9. Their heads bowed toward

40. The Judgment is on
and names are
being called to
decide cases
41. In the book of Remembrance
…every generous and thoughtful deed,
every kind word, every tender, loving
thought prompted by God and done in
His name, has been faithfully
registered. Every prayer offered,
"every temptation resisted, every evil
overcome, every word of tender pity
expressed, is faithfully chronicled." GC
481. Every little act of self-sacrifice
made for Jesus' sake, every trial
endured for Him - every one has been
written, and all will come up in
remembrance before the Father when
our name is called.
42. In the book of Death/Sins
Every word uttered, every departure
from integrity, every action that sullies
the soul, will be weighed in the balances
of the sanctuary…Thus every one will be
condemned or acquitted out of his own
mouth, and the righteousness of God
will be vindicated…
“But I say unto you, That every idle word
that men shall speak, they shall give
account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified,
and by thy words thou shalt be
condemned“. Matthew 12.36-37
43. In the book of Death/Sins
…The hidden selfishness of men
stands revealed in the books of
heaven. There is the record of
unfulfilled duties to their fellow
men, of forgetfulness of the
Saviour's claims… Our acts, our
words, even our most secret
motives, all have their weight in
deciding our destiny for weal or
woe. Though they may be
forgotten by us, they will bear their
testimony to justify or condemn.
