1. APU International High School ESL Department
August 26, 2010
To whom it may concern,
I am writing in support of Emily Borden as a candidate for an English language teacher position.
As Program Director at APU International School, I managed Emily for 1 year.
Emily is an enthusiastic and caring teacher. Although she had no teaching experience when she
arrived at APU, she quickly learned techniques that would help her become a good teacher. She
was extremely receptive to suggestions and criticism, and she took it upon herself to observe
experienced teachers during her open period.
At APU Emily had the opportunity to teach all levels of English language learners, from
beginners to advanced. Students ranged from middle to high school. She had a great relationship
with the students, and was well liked, but at the same time she was able to keep good classroom
control.
Although the ESL curriculum is in place at APU, Emily always supplemented the course books
in response to student needs, and she often personalized the lessons to make them relate to
student interests. She was also flexible, and organized. She remained unruffled at last-minute
changes, and always kept her paperwork in order.
Emily was also well liked by other staff members at APU, and developed good working
relationships, as well as friendships, with other teachers and staff members.
I highly recommend Emily for any position she seeks. If you have any further questions, please
feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Leah Roy, MA
