Real Life Drama
“A real life drama incorporates
dramatic elements into biographical I carried out research into this genre and two films
film. These films differ from Historical in particular became apparent to me. They both
and ‘based in truth’ film because they focus on real life events that can happen to
specifically chronicle the life of a anyone and they carry similar themes to my film.
person or a group of people. Biography
films attempt to show comprehensive
and an accurate picture of the specific
subject, thus they tend to be serious
and intense.”

I have chosen this genre as it is one of my
favourite film genres and I personally believe that
it will be the easiest to make with the facilities
that are available to me. Also by choosing a
genre that is familiar to me, I will be able to
recreate ideas that I have seen from other films
with similar genres.
Plot
• Autumn – Main Character.
• A kind, intelligent, fashionable, outgoing and bubbly girl who has just turned 18.
• The film will be set on her 18th Birthday.
• She receives a birthday card, signed ‘mum’ – soon to realise this is her real
mum and she was adopted at a young age. Which was kept from her by her
  adoptive parents.
• In order to keep in with the theme of the film, this will be the dramatic event
that is set in a real life situation. It will only focus on Autumn as I want it to be
from her perspective – linking to the theme of biographical film.
• Autumn will go in search of her mum, travelling to different cities, contacting
different people regarding the location of her real mum.
• She will visit the care home where she stayed when she was younger and meets
friends she was unaware she had.
Plot
• She meets a guy – Chris, who was in care with her when she was younger,
from here they begin to spend a lot of time together and start to fall for
  each other.
• Chris offers to help Autumn find her real mum, he offers to travel with her
  and keep her safe.
• Autumn breaks into the office of the care home and finds the address of
her real mum – the same day her and Chris set off in search.
• I hope to show the travelling scenes through flashes, keeping them as
vague as possible as I don’t not want to give to much of the story away.
• I plan to end the trailer on a cliff-hanger, where it is Autumn’s 18th
Birthday party – and the question will be whether her real mum shows or
  not.
Setting
• The film will be set on a secluded farm, where Autumn
has grown up with her adoptive family. It will be set
during the months of Autumn as she was named after
the season due to being born in the middle of
November. During the film, she will reflect the season
to show the link to the audience. The film will carry a
strong theme of Autumn as I want everything to work
well together. Therefore both my movie poster and
magazine front cover will include images from my
chosen location where only my main character will
  appear.
Target Audience
• My target audience for my film will most likely be young adults
between the ages of 16-25. I think because of the theme of
the film it will most appeal to females, as it will includes
romantic drama sections as well as heart-warming storyline
that I believe girls would most likely be interested in.
• Also from the research I carried out (questionnaire) this
showed me that girls are most interested in this kind of films in
  comparison to other film genres.
Rating
• The BBFC states that: • I would rate my film '12' due to the
content I want to include being
suitable for anyone over the age of 12.
It will not include any disturbing
scenes that would be seen as
unsuitable for the age group nor will it
include any swearing or sexual content
of any kind. It will however include
dramatic real life events, but I believe
it will be suitable for viewers as young
                              as 12 to view.
                            • By rating my film as '12' this will attract
a much wider audience than it would if
                              it was a higher rating.
Production Company
I decided to make a production
company that carried a similar theme
to my film theme. Therefore I decided
to go with a leaf as my logo as well as
          interpreting in autumn colours.

However, the image of the leaf is not
yet a primary image, which I know this
something I will need to make sure on
          my final logo.

I came up with the name ‘Maple
Productions’ again to carry on the
same theme as the rest of my work.
Promotion
• I plan to promote my film through different advertisement
campaigns that appeal to my target audience. These will be
advertisement ideas such as posters and magazine adverts.
Alongside this I would advertise my film via the many social
networking sites in which are not available, such as Facebook
and Twitter, due to my target audience being the majority of
the users on these sites. Also by using websites likes these,
the advertisement campaigns will be seen by millions of users
that my film would appeal to - attracting a large audience.
• Another way I would promote my film is by using websites
such as YouTube to publish my teaser trailer. This could then
link back to the social networking sites as I would post links
within the advertisements campaigns to allow users from my
target audience to view the teaser trailer.
Location
My chosen location is where I will film parts of the footage for my film
teaser trailer as well as the place where I will take the final pictures for my
movie poster and magazine front cover.
Characters
As explained in my plot, my main
characters name will be Autumn. She
will feature in the majority of my teaser
trailer and will be the only character to
feature in the movie poster and
   magazine front cover.

I may also include in my teaser trailer:

   - friends of Autumn’s
   - family members from adoptive family
   - real family members; however I aim to
keep her mums identity hidden within
   the trailer.
Costumes
- My aim is to keep the costume as realistic as possible, to link in with the
theme or ‘real life drama’. Below is a few images of potential clothing
    ideas:
Hair and Make Up
- In regards to hair and make up, I hope to have my main character in
natural everyday make up, with wavy hair. Again here are some images of
    hair style ideas:
Movie Poster’s Inspiration
This is the theme I hope to use for my
movie poster as I particularly like the
way the lights are reflecting in the
background causing a depth of field
effect. I like how the poster is simplistic
and not much is going on within it. I
also like how the colours all work well
together. I hope to recreate this in an
autumn environment, where the
colours of autumn are reflected both in
my character and the surroundings. I
aim to create the same effect in the
background with the use of the sun and
being able to make a ‘sparkle’ when the
light hits my camera.
Also linking back to the first examples I gave both of these movie posters use light in the
similar ways to how I hope to use it in my movie poster.

For example, ‘In pursuit to happyness’, the sun
has been used in the background as a centre to
the picture to show the bond between the
 father and his son.

However in ‘My sisters keeper’ this used similar
lighting the poster in the previous slide where
sparkles have been created around the main image.
Movie Poster Draft
This is my first attempt at Improvements
a movie poster. Within When editing my
this I have edited the photo for my real
image slightly to make
                                poster I will try and
the sun appear stronger
therefore making the make the autumn
colours of the grass and colours stand out
the leaves more vibrant. more in order to link
Also I had a go at in to my theme.
creating lettering to
appear on my poster that I will also aim to
wouldn’t attract the make my lettering
attention away from the
                                easier to read,
main image to much. I
particularly like how my although I want to
main character is sitting keep it as subtle as
in this image and I hope possible I aim to
to recreate this is my make it bolder than
final movie poster. this.
Ideas for Magazine Front
              Cover
• When researching, I struggled
to find a magazine front cover Masthead
  that had similar features to
what I hope to include on
mine, therefore I came up with Flash
a rough plan of the layout I Box

hope to create on my magazine
  front cover. Whole Page Image
• My aim is to keep my magazine
  front cover as simple as
possible in order to draw the Flash
most attention to the main Box
image which I plan to take up
  the majority of the page.
                                               Banner
Masthead Flash Boxes and Banner
Potential Names for the magazine: - To include a brief opening to articles
-Premiere within the magazine, particularly the
-The View main article on the new and upcoming
                                         film ‘Autumn’.
-Review

Main Image Ideas
- In the main image my aim is to include a picture of my main character in
one of my locations from the pictures from the earlier slide. For example,
using the picture below however with my main character sitting on the
   fence.
Teaser Trailer Ideas
• Within my teaser trailer I aim to include minimal film footage
as I don’t want to give away too much of the story. I have
watched many teasers trailers and from this I have gained the
idea of including only flashes with music playing over the top.
I will include only the important parts of the film that I believe
  would draw the audience in.
• I will also end my trailer on a cliff hanger as I want to leave my
target audience wanting more as well as not wanting to give
away the ending of the film.
