Evaluation: Question 7
1. QUESTION 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the progression
from it to the final product?
2. Looking back at my preliminary task to my final
product I can see that there is a very clear difference in
the overall quality of both films. As I deconstructed
the thrillers on 4 categories, I will compare my
preliminary task and my final product on the same 4;
Camerawork, Editing, Mise en Scene and Sound.
3. CAMERAWORK
In my preliminary task the camerawork was very basic
with only limited angles and shot types, and they did not
flow as well as the shots in my final product either. In my
preliminary task I did not move the camera with the
action so overall I found it a lot more basic than my final
product.
5. EDITING
When editing my preliminary task I made quite a few
errors on continuity and it was easy to tell where I had
cut shots to slowly which meant that the action didn’t
flow easily whereas on my final product the editing was a
lot better and when watching the final product you can
see that the action does flow a lot more smoothly that in
my preliminary task.
6.
7. MISE EN SCENE
In my preliminary task I didn’t really have a plot that I followed
so the mise en scene is just what the characters were wearing
on that day and what was in the room at the times of filming.
However, in my final product I thought a lot more about
costume and location. I did research on what a villain looks like
and chose night to film my final product as I wanted to create a
sinister atmosphere.
8.
9. SOUND
In my preliminary task because there was no real plot I did not think to
add any sound effects or background music and when the two
characters were talking they just had a normal conversation, which
overall made it uninteresting to watch. In my final product however I
added background music which helped to heighten the tension and
create an atmosphere, added sound effects such as crashing and the
conversation between the characters was that of villain/victim which
made it a lot more interesting.
10. CONCLUSIONS
From the progression of the preliminary task to the final
product I can see that I have become more skilled in filming
and editing and have learnt a lot about how different camera
angles can make a piece a lot more interesting. I can see from
my final product that the editing is a a lot sharper and flows
more smoothly than the final product. Overall, I feel that there
are a big number of improvements I have made from the
preliminary task to the final product.
