2. History
In September 1620 England, there were
a group of people who all went to the
same church, they were called
Puritans.
There was a king of England who
thought everyone should go to his
church. He got mad when the
separatist didn’t want to go to his
church, he said, “You go to my
church or you go to jail!”
The religious separatists seeking a new
home where they could practice their
faith and with the promise of
prosperity and land ownership
travelled to the New World. 2
3. History
The king realized that the
Separatists weren’t going to
change their minds so he said,
“You can get out of jail, but you
have to leave England.”
So the Separatists later called
Pilgrims set sail for America on
a ship called the “Mayflower.”
It lasted 66 days, they arrived
near the tip of Cape Cod. They
eventually settled in Plymouth
and began settling.

When they got to America, it was winter and there was no
food or houses. Many of the pilgrims died from sickness,
starvation and freezing to death

5. Help From the Native Americans
There were some
people who lived in
America already. We
called them Indians.
They saw the
Pilgrims suffering
and they decided to
help them.

The Pilgrims weakened by malnutrition and illness, the
Wampanoag showed them many necessary skills how to
survive..

to grow corn and
pumpkins.

to hunt and fish.
They helped them build
houses out of the trees

7. The First Thanksgiving
November 1621, after the Pilgrims’ first corn
harvest proved to be successful they organized
a celebratory feast and invited the Native
Americans to for a three day feast.

The Wampanoag guests arrived bearing five deer.
Historians have suggested that many of the dishes were
likely prepared using traditional Native American spices
and cooking methods ,fish, deer, sweet potatoes, corn
and pumpkin. They also played many games

The main objective of Thanksgiving in 1623 was to mark
the end of a long drought that threatened the years
harvest. I also carried a deep religious significance.
In 1817 New York became the first state to officially adopt
an annual al Thanksgiving holiday

On Thanksgiving day families get together and have

Each Family in the United States Celebrates
Thanksgiving in their own way. When it comes to
the Thanksgiving feast the Melo Family has the

Peas, Green bean Casserole, Mashed Potatoes,
Macaroni and Cheese, Cranberry Sauce, Corn,
sweet potato, and Bread

At the start of each meal we usually have wine
or some kind of special drink like Pumpkin-
Tini. However, Champagne or apple cider are
also family favorites.

If there is any room left in our stomachs we end
each meal with a dessert. Pumpkin Pie, Apple
Pie, and Pecan Pie are some of the must haves
when finishing a great dinner.
