2. The people who lived near Newgrange during the
Stone Age were some of the first farmers in Ireland.
They cleared trees and began growing crops like oats,
barley and wheat. They also began rearing animals
such as pigs, sheep and cattle. They did not have to
move around in search of food. These people were
very organised. They lived and worked together in
large groups.
