What lacks in the traditional education
Traditional education focuses on the translation between two languages.
– This is necessary and useful for learning a second language efficiently.
– But not enough for an effective/practical use of the language.

How to train the “direct connection”
Step 1
– Try to express really simple things (like, what you're doing now) directly
in English.

Bridge the gap between components
Step 2
– If you want to express complex things, summarize them in simple
(Japanese) sentences and express them in English.
– Avoid the direct translation of complex Japanese sentences.

The benefit of the “summarize and express” training
Refactor your idea.
– The logical structure of sentence is different between languages.
Summarizing your thoughts helps you to refactor your idea, and to
express in plain words.
– As a result, you can avoid the “grammatically correct but hard to
understand” English.
Consturct a dictionary of your thoughts.
– In most cases, you would express what you usually think of.
– Through this training, you would understand how you can express your
common thoughts and ideas. Then you can skip the “Think in English”
phase of the conversation.
Anything else?
