MALTED
Malted is a free tool provided by the Ministry of Education to design interactive didactic
lessons for languages.
How can I start using Malted in my classroom?
Just go to the site and choose the level you teach, for example, let’s imagine you are a Primary
teacher, so you click on and choose the level you need.
Let’s imagine you need First Year, just click on and surf all the lessons
available. When you’ve decided which one you’d like to see, just click on and you’ll be
able to work with it online. The example below shows the lesson entitled The Hungry Ants.

You can surf around it to know it well, and then use it with your students. One of the
advantages of these lessons is that they include tasks for all the skills: reading, writing,
listening and speaking, since students can even record their own voice, save it and then you
can collect the recordings later and assess them.
Apart from viewing the lessons online, you can also download them to your computer and
work on them locally so that you don’t depend on your internet connection, it’s easy. Let’s go
back to the lessons for First Year, Primary Education and click on Download.
Then, scroll up or down and click on . It will take straight to the
instructions on how to download this lesson on your computer. Just follow the steps.

This is the whole structure of all the materials available from Malted. This structure is only
downloaded once, the first time you download a lesson from the web; then, the more lessons
you download, the more you’ll build up on this structure, the more materials will be added.
The example you’ve just downloaded, The Hungry Ants, is part of the didactic units for Primary
Education, so in order to open it locally in your computer, you’ll have to click on
and you’ll open the different
ways the units are offered, either depending on the level they belong to, ,
or on the European Framework, . The more units you download, the more
you’ll see under these divisions. If you click, for instance, on , this is what
you will find:

Obviously it is The Hungry Ants, the lesson you’ve just downloaded. Now you can work with it
locally and you can also have a look at the Teacher’s Notes for it ; you don’t have to worry
about your internet connection any more.
Apart from the lessons themselves, Malted also offers you other extra printable classroom
resources, which extend the work with the interactive lessons and allow you to assess your
students’ work. Just surf around Recursos aula on Malted web and find those you need to use.
