GBP/USD hit 1.4903 during European morning trade, the session high; the pair subsequently
consolidated at 1.4891, climbing 0.55%.The pound was higher against the U.S. dollar on
Wednesday, as demand for the greenback weakened ahead of the minutes of the Federal Re-
serve's latest policy meeting, expected later in the day. Cable was likely to find support at
1.4797, Tuesday's low and resistance at 1.4982, the high of April 6.Market participants were
eyeing the Fed's upcoming meeting minutes for indications on the central bank's next policy
moves after Friday's downbeat jobs data fuelled uncertainty over the timing of a rate hike.
EUR/USD was at 1.0863, up 0.45% for the day, little changed from ahead of the report. The
euro held gains against the dollar on Wednesday despite data showing that euro zone retail
sales fell in February, snapping four straight months of gains. The European Union’s statistics
agency Eurostat reported that retail sales fell 0.2% in February, in line with market expecta-
tions. On a year-over-year basis, retail sales rose 3.0% also in line with forecasts. The report
said gasoline sales fell for the first time since September, indicating that the boost to consumer
spending from lower oil prices may be waning.
