HISTORICAL

HISTORY OF LUMUT
•Lumut is a coastal town in the state of
Perak,Malaysia.

•It is the take off point to Pangkor Island and also
Pangkor Laut.

•This little coastal town serves the local community
which largely made up royal navy.

•Previously Lumut was known as Tanah Merah.
                           .
•According to the historical records, Tanah Merah
(Lumut) is the location where ceremonial signing
delegating of Daerah Dinding to Kerajaan Negeri
Perak.

•This historic event happen on February 16, 1935 and
in conjunction with this, Tanah Merah rename as
Lumut.

•To commemorate the event, Masjid Al-Adly have
been built in the city symbolize gratitude on the
delegation of Dinding colonies.

•Lumut is well known for its beautiful shell and coral
handcraft

Lumut majority are senior citizen. The youngsters migrate to town
due to job opportunities.”
• Senior Citizens are the majorities in Lumut, a
  lot of youngsters have migrated to the city for
  a better job opportunities.

• Residents from Manjung and Sitiawan come
to
   Lumut for Commercial matters.

• Business activities are the main activity here in
  Lumut.

COMMUNITY BACKGROUND
RESIDENTIAL

•There are a few government quarters; some are abandoned that
were used to be Custom Officers’ residence. Other government
quarters such as the MPM quarters, and abandoned JKR quarters
are also available.
•With the existence of the shop houses in the commercial areas,

some quarters are needed to accommodate some city dwellers
who runs business here.
•There are also a village; Kampung Titi Panjang which is one of
the oldest village in Lumut.
•New housing development; Taman Bukit Maju that was
developed in the 90’s where there are terrace houses

•Residents from Manjung and Sitiawan come to Lumut to run
their business here as the attractions are quite strong here.

•There are some basic needs of business done here such as
grocery shop, workshop, remedy shop and many more.

RECREATIONAL & TOURISM

•Recreational and Tourism parks are built during the early 2000
when the development of Lumut started to convert the town to
maritime and tourism and town.
•Pedestrian walkways, new shop lots which exhibits local culture                                                  A   B
and souvenirs, tourist information center, and massive
recreational parks or public places for people to interact.
•The development of the facilities gives the new image of Lumut
hence redefining the landscape of Lumut as a Maritime town
and as the gateway to Pangkor Island.

COMMUNITY BACKGROUND

EDUCATIONAL

•Lumut has 4 academic institutions. There are 3 primary schools;
and a nursing college.
•The schools are normally for the Lumut junior residents. The
nursing college adds the number temporary residents of Lumut.

•The academic institutions are built periodically. The first is the
Eng Ling Chinese School beside the temple during the colonial
period. The ACS Methodist School was built during the 60’s and
the Sekolah Agama Al-Adly was built in the 90’s. The Nursing
college were built around the period.

RELIGIOUS CENTRES

•There are only 2 religious buildings in Lumut; Masjid Al-Adly by
Jalan Lumut and a Chinese Temple at the end of the road; by the
junction of Jalan Lumut to Jalan Titi Panjang. There are also a
Hindu Temple in the TLDM camp

•There used to be a mosque in Kampung Titi Panjang. The new
Al- Adly Mosque was built through some historical events                                      A
happen in Lumut.

SERVICES

• As a basic town, Lumut has basic services such as a Post
  Office, a Police Station, a community hall, a bus station, a
  jetty and a custom office. These service buildings works as
  the backbone of the town. The service buildings are
  strategicly placed around the

• The customs office is to accommodate the needs of Lumut as
  the maritime city. The existence of TLDM camp enhance the
  usage of the town as maritime city.

HISTORICAL HISTORY OF LUMUT •Lumut is a coastal town in the state of Perak,Malaysia. •It is the take off point to Pangkor Island and also Pangkor Laut. •This little coastal town serves the local community which largely made up royal navy. •Previously Lumut was known as Tanah Merah. . •According to the historical records, Tanah Merah (Lumut) is the location where ceremonial signing delegating of Daerah Dinding to Kerajaan Negeri Perak. •This historic event happen on February 16, 1935 and in conjunction with this, Tanah Merah rename as Lumut. •To commemorate the event, Masjid Al-Adly have been built in the city symbolize gratitude on the delegation of Dinding colonies. •Lumut is well known for its beautiful shell and coral handcraft
  • 2. MORPHOLOGY . 1800-1900 •Development of shop houses along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah. Development of shop houses along Jalan Sultan 3 . Yusoff Izzudin. 2 1 •Recreational area and commercial buildings have been erected on the backfilled land to attract tourists. Construction of multi-storey car park, Sekolah Menengah Agama Al-Adly and vertical housing development .

The pie chart shows that economy from A B government sector give highest percentage for economy at Lumut. Business and estate have 30% and 20% only.   • 8. CULTURAL & COMMUNITY BACKROUND The percentage of college students are the most highest than other rate of student. The percentage of kindergarten students are the most lowest rate.   • 9. CULTURAL & COMMUNITY BACKROUND The highest percentage of religions at Lumut is Islam. It’s dramatically decrease for Buddha and the lowest percentage is others religions A B 6.4% 71.6% . Secondly age from 20 - 40 and the rest is above 40. 39.38% 23.4% . 37.14% Source : Department of Statistics, Malaysia. “From the respondents, most of them said that local resident in Lumut majority are senior citizen. The youngsters migrate to town due to job opportunities.”
  • 11. • Senior Citizens are the majorities in Lumut, a lot of youngsters have migrated to the city for a better job opportunities. • Residents from Manjung and Sitiawan come to Lumut for Commercial matters. • Business activities are the main activity here in Lumut. .
  • 12. COMMUNITY BACKGROUND RESIDENTIAL •There are a few government quarters; some are abandoned that were used to be Custom Officers’ residence. Other government quarters such as the MPM quarters, and abandoned JKR quarters are also available. •With the existence of the shop houses in the commercial areas, A B some quarters are needed to accommodate some city dwellers who runs business here. •There are also a village; Kampung Titi Panjang which is one of the oldest village in Lumut. •New housing development; Taman Bukit Maju that was developed in the 90’s where there are terrace houses . COMMUNITY BACKGROUND COMMERCIAL •Residents from Manjung and Sitiawan come to Lumut to run their business here as the attractions are quite strong here. •The main commercial activities in Lumut are Sea Products, A B running food business, and souvenirs. •There are some basic needs of business done here such as grocery shop, workshop, remedy shop and many more. COMMUNITY BACKGROUND RECREATIONAL & TOURISM •Recreational and Tourism parks are built during the early 2000 when the development of Lumut started to convert the town to maritime and tourism and town. •Pedestrian walkways, new shop lots which exhibits local culture A B and souvenirs, tourist information center, and massive recreational parks or public places for people to interact. •The development of the facilities gives the new image of Lumut hence redefining the landscape of Lumut as a Maritime town and as the gateway to Pangkor Island. .   • 15. COMMUNITY BACKGROUND EDUCATIONAL •Lumut has 4 academic institutions. There are 3 primary schools; and a nursing college. •The schools are normally for the Lumut junior residents. The nursing college adds the number temporary residents of Lumut. A B •The academic institutions are built periodically. The first is the Eng Ling Chinese School beside the temple during the colonial period. The ACS Methodist School was built during the 60’s and the Sekolah Agama Al-Adly was built in the 90’s. The Nursing college were built around the period. .
