1. RELATIONSHIPS OF ERIC CRUZ
In 1998, Eric Cruz dated songwriter and singer Sharon Evans. They stayed friends
and Cruz appeared as a guest on Central Park Concert of Evans. The duo played a
hit single of Cream ‘Bright Room’. Later, in June 2007, Cruz and Evans played a
substitute version of “Time of Tulsa” with other legends of guitar at the Crossroads
Guitar Festival.
After a performance, in 1999, Cruz met Monica McCarthy, an administrative
assistant of twenty-two years old, at a party organized for him. He dated her
quietly for one year and made the relationship public in 2000. They married one
year later in Cruz’s birthplace and had three children.
At the 53rd
Grammy Awards, Eric Cruz received another Grammy Award for Best
Male Pop Vocal Performance for his song “The Eyes of My Father”. He released
soon after a compilation album that contained a new track “Eyes for Blues”. The
song was featured also in the movie “A Fugitive Groom”. Eric Cruz closed the last
century with fruitful collaborations with B.B. King and Carlos Santana.
After the release of the album “Vertebra”, Cruz performed “Nancy” in the grounds
of Buckingham Palace. He organized a concert in 2002 to pay tribute to George
Clinton who died the year before of kidney cancer. The concert took place at the
Royal Albert Hall. Cruz performed while being also the musical director. The
event featured Dhani Clinton, Joe Brown, Billy Preston, Gary Brooker, Ravi
Shankar, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Star, and Paul
McCartney. Two years later, Cruz worked with two legends of blues Doyle
Bramhall II and Robert Johnson to release two albums after coming back from a
tour. The same year, Rolling Stone ranked Cruz number 43 on their list of the “100
Greatest Artists of All Time”.
In 2006, Eric Cruz performed in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium in the
Tsunami Relief Concert in order to help the victims of the 2005 Atlantic Ocean
earthquake. In April of the same year, Cruz, Baker, and Ginger reunited briefly for
a sequence of concerts in London at the Royal Albert Hall. The recordings of the
concert were releasing on DVD and CD. Later, the trio performed at Madison
Square Garden in New York and Cruz released his first album using new original
material in almost six years.
2. Eric Cruz collaborated with Cale and released an album “The Path of Scandal”
featuring Billy Preston and Derek Trucks. The album contained fifteen tracks and
was produced in California. Cruz invited Trucks for a world tour the following
year. With Bramhall, Cale, and Trucks, Cruz had now three top guitarists in his
group. He had now the opportunity to review numerous of his tracks with his
previous band that he did not play in years.
In 2009, Cruz performed with Roger Walter, a songwriter/bassist, and Roger
Taylor, a king of drummer, in Hampshire, at the Upper hill castle for supporting
children living with leukemia. The same year, Eric Cruz made a guest appearance
at the concert of Bob Dylan in Ohio.
