The U.S. currently has a tremendous imbalance of trade even as we import over 50 million dollars a year worth of bamboo shoots, poles and other products.
We also have: massive unemployment, many abandoned small farms, overburdened landfills, organic waste disposal issues, receding water tables and diminishing water quality, severe soil erosion, worsening air pollution, etc.
Americans Need Jobs. Building a domestic bamboo industry from the ground up creates jobs. Cleaner, greener, and with the promise of cleaning up our soil, air and water. That's Bamboo.
The only roadblock is the political support and front end investment. This is a Bamboo Project.
A Good Idea
Growing of bamboo domestically would not only encourage more use of an environmentally-friendly material but it would also revive the United States agriculture industry. The potential of bamboo to improve the quality of life for a family or a community is vast.

6. 1.2 – bamboo
Bamboo is a material with a high - but latent - potential for application in a plethora of products. Early
adopters in the global market are already using bamboo in a wide variety of products, currently bamboo
is mainly used for basketry and flooring. During the last 15–20 years, bamboo has developed as an
exceptionally valuable and often superior substitute for wood. Bamboo-based panels and boards are
hard and durable and may successfully substitute for hardwood products. Bamboo may replace wood in
many industrial applications and thereby contribute to the saving and restoration of the world’s forests.
Because of its high growth rate and easy processing, bamboo is a promising renewable resource. Bamboo’s
good mechanical properties, low costs, and potential use in a multitude of applications show the potential
of this versatile resource. Moreover, due to its extensive root network, bamboo as a plant is a good erosion
controller and water table preserver.
From a botanical point of view, bamboo belongs to the grasses, the Graminea, and is therefore not a tree.
It is estimated that around 1000-1500 different species of bamboo exist. There are considerable
differences between species in size, color, node distribution, configuration, mechanical properties, and
climatic preferences.

Bamboo captures 35% more carbon than wood trees.
It has a higher tensile strength than many alloys of steel.
It can tolerate extreme conditions and depleted soils that most plants cannot.
Bamboo is harvested and replenished with no impact to the environment.

Market for Bamboo:
Although bamboo markets are expanding, it
is not yet clear how large the potential
market for bamboo is, and where the limits
for the current expansion are. Availability of
trade statistics up to 2006 is limited, because
the necessary customs codes did not exist. As
a result of growth of the bamboo market in
2007, the United States International Trade
Commission issued HTS codes for Bamboo
products. Prior to 2007, bamboo was
classified under “Other woods”.
Confidential Mandalei Global |Bamboo Group 9
10. 1.4– bamboo market
Market for Bamboo in the U.S.:
It is argued that products manufactured in China are
cheaper and we cannot source bamboo products for that
reason efficiently. Let’s walk through the bamboo
products journey from China.
A U.S. company purchases an iPhone case for $5.00
(source alibaba.com) this same product is sold to the U.S.
consumer for $35.00. Please add to that the equivalent
release of CO2 x 50 million cars while you are at it. This is
the reported output of one container ship from China to
the United States.
WHY the HUGE markup? Well there are a lot of people to be paid in your products’ journey. Shipping is
anywhere from $3,000-$6,000 dollars. Then there are customs, brokers, warehousing, and salesmen that all
need to make money resulting in the $36.00 towel. If bamboo is sourced here, the “middlemen” and
transportation affects are WIPED OUT. As a benefit you will also be saving our environment, creating jobs,
and find additional uses for this wonder plant. After considering all the different factors when ordering
from China; the United States can afford to be competitive.
Now multiply these savings by the furniture, home décor, technology accessories, flooring, and apparel
products being sold in the United States today. The birth of the main stream bamboo industry is upon us.
Confidential Mandalei Global |Bamboo Group 10
11. 1.4– bamboo market
The idea of growing bamboo for profit in the United States has been
in play for nearly a century, with test plots of giant bamboo
successfully grown in Alabama as early as 1944. But with a ready
supply coming from Asia, there has been no incentive to fully explore
a domestic source of bamboo—until now.
Today, things are different. The race for truly renewable resources
and solutions for climate change is on.
Unsustainable practices and overharvesting in Asia means that creating a domestic supply of bamboo in
the United States has the potential for major practical, economic and environmental benefits.
With prime growing conditions, pioneering propagation techniques, and innovative companies ready to
create the necessary manufacturing and infrastructure links, the U.S. is poised to act. All that remains is
the political commitment and front-end investment.
Bamboo is the highest performing asset class for a reason. There is always a demand spread across
multiple industries, so there is always liquidity in your investment.
Developing technologies for use of bamboo as bio fuel and bio mass are increasing the demand and
driving market prices higher. In our opinion, the best assets class next to precious metals.
Bringing bamboo technologies to U.S. shores is the next logical step in the bamboo evolution. Diminishing
timber resources and sustainable forests leave a large opportunity for bamboo. We believe investors will
come to the same conclusion.
Confidential Mandalei Global |Bamboo Group 11
12. 1.5 – Bamboo in the U.S.
There is a seemingly unlimited number of uses for bamboo as
demonstrated in China and other foreign countries, but the many uses
of bamboo has not been realized in the U.S. where the main
production has been for ornamental purposes. A perennial that
grows by an extensive network of underground storage structures,
bamboo can withstand harsh conditions including drought and low
fertilizer inputs. Coupled with its amazing growth rate, bamboo
provides a highly renewable "green" choice for the production of
food, fiber and forage. It is a promising candidate for biofuel
production. It is an excellent source of high quality lumber and
flooring products and is increasingly becoming the en vogue green
choice preferred by many consumers.
Despite the retail interest in bamboo products in the U.S. and its potential for biomass and forage use,
bamboo production in the U.S. is very limited. Research is needed on the plant production, large-scale
establishment, harvesting, and processing of bamboo to allow producers the opportunity to take
advantage of this valuable resource.
Bamboo Group is committed to the establishment of the bamboo economy in the United States. The
Bamboo Group will pioneer not only the uses of bamboo as a viable product, but will also invent much
needed production processes to produce bamboo products efficiently.

technology or both, and the bull market will end. But that's a long ways away yet."
- George Soros, June 2009
If bamboo could be efficiently converted into fuel, the rise of bamboo as a non-food crop could grow in the United
States. Deforested areas could be colonized by bamboo four times faster than most native plants. Private property
owners would also have more incentive to grow bamboo to become energy self sufficient. There is already an
abundance of bamboo throughout Asia, and its popularity is growing rapidly in the United States. If a legitimate
process of converting its mass into liquid fuel were developed, one would assume that its popularity would only grow
larger. This would allow people to produce rapidly growing fuel sources, and discontinue the use of petrol based fuels.

21. 3.3 pellets
North America's wood pellet producers doubled exports to Europe between 2008 and 2010 as biomass
played a larger role in meeting renewable energy goals.
The EU’s wood pellet demand increased 7% in 2010 to about 11 million tons. Europe imported about $250
million worth of pellets from the U.S., Australia, and Vietnam in 2009. A joint USDA and DOE study
estimates 1.3 billion dry tons of biomass annually could displace 30% of U.S. liquid transportation fuels, or
65 billion gallons per year. The U.S. National Research Council reported in a recent study that biomass to
liquids plants would be cost competitive with conventional oil refineries if a $50/ton CO2 tariff is imposed
in the U. S.
The North American Wood Fiber Review reported that the United States and Canada shipped a combined
1.6 million tons of pellets to the European Union in 2010. Exports are expected to increase this year as
many countries look to biomass power since the EU mandated 20 percent of energy consumption must come
from renewable resources by 2020.
Wood pellets cost $230 to $300 per ton. While Europe’s biomass power industry has been heavily
subsidized by feed-in tariffs and incentives; it has become increasingly competitive with fossil fuels as coal
prices rise.

22. 34 bio char
Bamboo charcoal is traditionally used as a substitute for wood charcoal or mineral coal. It can serve as a
fuel, absorbent and conductor. The calorific value of bamboo charcoal is almost half that of oil of the same
weight.
Activated bamboo charcoal can be used for cleaning the environment, absorbing excess moisture and
producing medicines. The absorption capacity of bamboo charcoal is six times that of wood charcoal of the
same weight. Bamboo charcoal can be used as an air purifier and for other antipollution purposes (Hunter,
2003).
Bamboo Charcoal: Bamboo charcoal is used as water purifier (drinking water, sewage and industrial water
treatment), air purifier, medical applications, deodorizing agent, soil improvement, etc.
Bamboo Active Carbon: Bamboo active carbon can be used for water and gas treatment, refining coarse
sugar, refining wines and edible oils, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic applications, filters in atomic reactors,
improving soil through nitrogen fixation, as electrodes in microelectronic technology, etc.

23. 3.5 textiles
Bamboo fiber is a green, regenerated natural cellulose fiber made from the pulp of the Bamboo. Compared
with other natural fibers, such as organic cotton fiber, jute, sisal hemp, and soybean fiber, bamboo fiber is
extremely cost effective, resulting in a price advantage for bamboo finished products.
The breakdown of bamboo to fiber has historically been a chemically intensive process creating
environmental issues as well as higher costs. Mandalei’s proposed clean water intensive manufacturing
process, uses no chemicals and is highly eco-friendly.
Bamboo fiber is a revolutionary fabric that’s increasing in popularity. It has unparalleled advantages with its
unique properties, including strength and versatility.
100% pesticide, fertilizer and chemical free.
100% unique biodegradable textile material – unlike petroleum based synthetic fibers.
Blocks 91% of UVA & 98% of UVB rays- naturally.
Bamboo fibers produce textiles that are naturally, soft, smooth and luxuriously comfortable.
Bamboo is 3-4 times more absorbent than cotton, it wicks away and evaporates moisture in a split
second, fabrics keep you drier, cooler, and more comfortable.
Confidential Mandalei Global |Bamboo Group 23
24. 3.6 construction
Industrial bamboo products that compete with mainstream timber products have only emerged on a
commercial scale in the last 10 years (excluding simple products like paper and chopsticks). Current global
consumption is only approximately USD 500 million per year, compared to the overall export market of
USD 80 billion per year for secondary processed wood products, which has grown by an average of more
than 12% per year since 2000. With the growth in export markets for processed wood products and
increasing penetration of bamboo products into these markets, the industrial bamboo market could grow to
USD 4-8 billion over the next 10 years.
This strong growth potential is based around the competitiveness of engineered bamboo products against
timber equivalents, especially hardwoods. Engineered bamboo provides a lower-cost alternative to most
hardwoods, with savings of 30% or more, while at the same time providing comparable or better technical
performance in terms of hardness, stability, and strength. Combined with environmental sustainability and
good aesthetics, it is an increasingly competitive product in mainstream timber markets. There also appear
to be good opportunities in the Vietnamese market for timber import substitution for products such as door
frames, window frames, and other similar construction materials. China is currently the world’s bamboo
superpower: it produces over 80% of global output and accounts for over 60% of global consumption.

25. 3.7 bio fuels
The U.S. commitment to bio fuel sources and its integration into conventional fuels has sparked controversy.
As companies that supply motor fuel close the books on 2011, they will pay $6.8 million in penalties to the
Treasury because they failed to mix biofuel gasoline and diesel. Amount of biofuel and penalties will
increase in 2012.
The National Petrochemicals and Refiners Association argues that there is no such bio fuel on the market to
be acquired. Mandalei will fulfill this need. (source: New York Times 1/10/2012.)
The Biomass Feedstock Development Program at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) recently released a publication entitled Bamboo: An
Overlooked Biomass Resource?
The ORNL report speculates that based on figures available from
overseas, as well as the limited trials conducted in the US, intensively
managed bamboo stands with fertilization may be capable of producing
over 4.5 tons/acre/year (10 t/ha/year) under Southeast US conditions.

Bamboo shoot is rich in vitamins, cellulose, amino acids and trace elements and is also a good source of fiber.
Bamboo shoot comprises 90% water. Edible content of a newly harvested shoot is usually 25 to 30 per cent,
with smaller shoot yielding a lower percentage edible content. Bamboo shoot can be consumed fresh or
processed. Fresh Bamboo shoot has a crisp & sweet flavor. Bamboo Shoot is used in oriental cooking as an
extender because it takes on the flavor of the ingredients it is cooked with.
It is reported that Bamboo shoot has some effect in cancer prevention and is very popular in the South East
Asian countries. It is also used to increase the appetite and decrease blood pressure and cholesterol. As a
widely consumed vegetable, Bamboo Shoot can be labeled as a heart protective vegetable and its
component phytosterols may be suitable as nutraceuticals.

labels that simply certify a product as being
while offering no supporting information for consumers.
We will utilize this label as a marketing tool conveying transparency in
bamboo manufacturing.
The P.E.I.R.S. Eco-Print Factstm label clearly reports all facets of a
products impact on the environment throughout the five events of a
products lifecycle.
The P.E.I.R.S. System is designed to report the impact of a effect
on climate change. This scientifically based rating system provides
measurements which takes into account the full life and
analysis of its components. The Eco-Print label reports
measurements in six categories:
Material the organic sustainability and percent of all materials in the
product.
Production factory energy efficiency and pollution of air/water
around the facility.
Use/Consumption energy usage, CO2 release pollution ratings.
Transportation how far via truck/ship/plane product traveled to
store and how much CO2 released.
Recyclability Percentage of product that is recyclable.
Carbon Offset- Credits purchased to offset the Eco- of that
product.
